Biodiesel in Diesel: Is it Safe?

I usually only fill up at brand-name gas stations, although whether that's actually better is debatable. But I heard that Aral is supposedly the first to start adding 5% biodiesel to their regular diesel (or will be soon???). However, newer TDI engines are no longer approved for biodiesel (and I would never use it), so what about the compatibility with the engine?
