Hello fellow diesel enthusiasts!

I apologize for intruding with a standard TD engine question. Perhaps someone can help me.
I have a standard turbocharged diesel engine with a displacement of 1900cc and only 90 horsepower. Is there anything I can modify to increase its power? I'm grateful for any ideas you might have!

It is a motor from Renault icon_sad.gif.
1900cc engine capacity.
90 horsepower.
mechanical fuel injection pump

I've already shortened the pressure sensor rod from the turbo by about 1 cm. Boost pressure was previously 0.4 bar --> now it's approximately 0.8 bar.

Oh, but still not enough power!

Hi,

Perhaps you should first familiarize yourself with the basic principles of diesel tuning. Simply increasing the boost pressure without making other changes, especially to the fuel injection amount, will achieve absolutely nothing.

"For a 1.9-liter engine with 90 horsepower, I find 0.4 bar to be too low for the standard pressure – are you sure this thing is working correctly, or do you know the specified values?"

Since you seem to be quite bold with your tuning, why don't you simply shorten the throttle cable? Or more precisely, where the throttle cable ends, you should find several adjustment screws for maximum throttle, idle speed, etc. You can play around with those as well.

I think it's quite risky to double the pressure, but it's your car.

Thanks for your tips so far!

I'm currently working with the kw-system. Let's see what comes out of it.

I just spoke with a Ford mechanic. He said that on a Ford Escort TD with 90 horsepower, you only need to slightly increase the fuel injection pressure of the pump and increase the turbo boost – then it should really take off.

Does this work for me too?
Are there any best practices or guidelines available for that?
And will the fuel injectors withstand it?
Or, to put it another way, by how much does this reduce the lifespan of my engine?

Assuming the pump design is similar to that used by Ford, I would say no – because, as far as I know, mechanical pumps (like those from Bosch VP) do not have a screw for adjusting injection pressure.

If I'm right, the Ford employee probably just gave you some common sense advice suitable for someone with a blood alcohol content exceeding 0.03%. new_all_coholic.gif

Hi.

I installed the same engine in my second car, a Volvo 460 TD from 1994.
To my knowledge, it can only be tuned using the methods already described (boost pressure + gas throttle control).
It would also be interesting to trace the boost pressure hose that leads into the pump.
Perhaps there's still something we can adjust there.
