@ timo !
Use the search function. The forum is full of posts that directly address your question. You'll find answers there.
@Ulf!
Golf V with a 2.0 TDI engine and 6-speed transmission, where the gear ratios 1-5 match those of my A3, according to the speedometer and tachometer, and the transmission code is EBF.
5.8 seconds.
The vehicle registration document states a weight of 1385 kg. The fuel tank is 3/4 full, and the odometer reading is 120 km.

Hi Uwe,
Do you still have the gear ratios and axle ratios, the tire size, and the maximum speed (according to the registration document)?
Then I could calculate everything "completely". Gruß Ulf

I've already searched the entire diesel mechanic forum earlier, and I can't find the transmission overview page, no matter how hard I try. Where did Rainer put it?
The Golf I'm driving has a different tire size than my A3, but as I mentioned earlier, it shifts through the first five gears just like mine. Only the sixth gear is higher. Perhaps the tire circumference and the gear ratios are the same? In any case, the speedometer readings match.
I have an AHF engine and an EBF transmission, but I don't have the specifications memorized.
Just a side note: I have a chip and roughly the same horsepower as specified for the Golf. Thanks to the winter temperatures, I'm back to 4.8 seconds for the acceleration test (5.5 seconds in the summer)!!!

Hello Uwe,
You can find the correspondence between the gearbox identification letters and their meanings in the technical articles under "Tips & Tricks."
Here are the gearbox data: https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=3129 (Then click on GKB.html).
Best regards, Rainer.

"For my A3, the table indicates a speed of 51 km/h at 2,000 RPM. The RPM readings for the Golf were the same as for my car. The tire size is also identical."
The brochure states a top speed of 203 km/h. I no longer have the vehicle registration document, but I did take it for an extensive test drive.
Excerpt from the brochure:
1) Vehicle unladen weight range with 90% fuel tank capacity and no driver (75 kg).
6) The use of RME (Rapeseed Methyl Ester) and FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) fuels (biodiesel) is not permitted.

@timo832000:
My Golf's 96 kW engine maintained the same top speed after 1,500 km as it did after 20,000 km. There's not much difference in performance over the mileage.
However, I took a different approach to determine the actual performance *relatively*. Using GPS, I measured the maximum speed (Vmax) in both directions on a straight section of track. After measuring the speed in one direction, I drove off the track and immediately returned to the track in the opposite direction.
The GPS showed a speed of 211.9 km/h in one direction and 215.4 km/h in the opposite direction. The highest speed recorded by the GPS on that day was 217.2 km/h. The manufacturer's stated top speed is 205 km/h. The car was equipped with the standard wheels of the Sport Edition (225/45 R17). The measurements were taken at approximately 23 degrees Celsius. Given that the 110 kW TDI engine in the Golf is stated to have a top speed of 216 km/h, a naive extrapolation based on the "lower" speed would suggest a power output somewhere between 96 and 110 kW. Therefore, conservatively estimated, this indicates an additional 7 kW of power, or 7.3%.
During the measurements, the speed was just slightly above 4,000 RPM.
A maximum speed of 197 km/h as indicated by the speedometer is unacceptable, regardless of the mileage. My speedometer showed approximately 220 km/h in one direction and 222 km/h in the faster direction during the measurements mentioned above. However, your speedometer might also be inaccurate. A GPS system might provide a more accurate comparison. Gruß

Okay, so I'm bringing this topic up again because I've been using a different engine control unit (ECU) with a chip for the past 3 days. According to VAGCOM (with logged data), the average acceleration time is now 5.2 seconds, which should correspond to approximately 140 horsepower. That's a huge difference compared to the standard configuration and even compared to a power box. However, since my Ibiza has a lot of miles on it, and this is the first time I'm using a turbo, I'm only running 1.1 bar of boost.
Best regards, Dr. B.

So, I mentioned it to a workshop foreman, and he said that a TDI engine needs to be "broken in." However, since my car hasn't gotten any faster from 2,000 km to 6,000 km, I'm not entirely convinced that's the reason.
What do you think I should do? |
Hi Timo,
1. Check if the GPS is displaying the location accurately (e.g., by comparing it to the kilometer markers on the highway and using a stopwatch -> 3600 / time taken to travel 1 km = actual km/h).
2. If the GPS reading is correct, perform the DZR test at 2000-4000 rpm.
3. If this also points to a lack of performance, go through the entire list of potential causes for performance loss in the technical article and check the camshaft timing -> new technical article. Gruß Ulf
