Hi everyone,
Okay, I'm having a problem with my Golf 3 TDI 110 HP: The other day, the engine just stalled while I was at a traffic light. I didn't stall it myself; I was idling. When I try to start it again, the engine doesn't turn over, and the oil pressure warning light on the instrument cluster comes on. After about 5 minutes, the engine starts again. The oil level is fine, and I'm using 0W40 motor oil. I haven't done any engine tuning; I just have an open sport air filter.
This has happened twice now, and both times I was idling and was just about to stop.
I've also noticed that sometimes, while driving normally, the engine RPM drops for about a second, as if the accelerator pedal is doing nothing, or as if the engine momentarily cuts out.
I don't know if the two problems are related in any way, but I'm getting really frustrated. I can't rely on the car anymore.
Can someone please help me ??????
Sure, here's the translation:
'Thank you.'
TLuv.

Hi TLuv,
Please search for 'Relais 109'.

Thanks Marco for the tip. I've looked at the relay, and it looks normal, but I'll replace it anyway.

How about the error memory? Has it been read out yet?
Based on my intuition, I would also suggest relay 109.

Today I went to Fischlein, but they didn't have a relay 109; they claimed it's only available from VW. After that, I looked at the relay again and discovered very fine cracks at one of the solder joints (I must have been blind ). Now I'm sure it's the relay 109! I resoldered the joint, and it should work now.
I would still like to buy the new gray relay from Bosch, but I don't know where to get it besides from VW. Is it possible to order it online somewhere?
PS: Thanks again for the tip.

'I've also experienced these symptoms occasionally in my 1994 Passat 1Z. I'm also going to proactively replace this part, although I suspect it might be the relay for the anti-theft system, especially since the engine starts right up again and no lights are illuminated.'

Hi Tluv,
If the cold solder joint was only on the platinum side, I don't see any reason why relay 109 couldn't be left in the vehicle.
@Bertil, what do you think about that?

@Bertil , what do you think about that? |
.... why me
I'd like to try it.
The 109 often only has problems with the solder joints, so reflow the solder and leave the old component in place. Gruß Bertil

Hi Bertil,
because you once mentioned some test setups involving relays that were soldered on, or was that someone else?

Hi Bertil,
because you once mentioned some test series involving soldered-on relays, or was that someone else? |
Ach so, das waren Testreihen zur Klemmverbindung von Kabeln an Platinenkontakten. Okay.
However, I believe this was only about solder joints that had cracked. In that case, the only solution is to resolder them.
In my opinion, the soldered connection isn't the best solution for use in a car, mainly because the temperature range is too wide (-40°C to +90°C). Gruß Bertil

I also experienced this phenomenon: while I was overtaking, my AHF-TDI engine stalled.
Great VW! I almost crashed into oncoming traffic!
The cause was a cracked solder joint in relay 109, with a gap of up to 1mm!

'For me, it was also the 109 model. It costs 9.90 euros. After it refused to start the other day, I took out the small gray one.'
Since then, there have been no more interruptions - I opened the old one, and it looks somewhat worn inside .
I mean, the spool is getting too hot , and somehow everything is dissolving .
So, I can only recommend simply replacing this relay, even without a specific reason. Those who haven't done it yet can protect themselves a little from this unpleasant surprise with this simple measure .
