Hello everyone,
after searching for an answer to my question in the forum.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find anyone named Bastianna.
My problem: On my C4 2.5 TDI, the odometer display is always dark.
I then inquired at VAG and bought a few light bulbs. I removed the instrument cluster to replace the bulb, but now I can't find any opening.
In the area of the kilowatt-meter. All other lights are working correctly.
Did I miss something, and can you help me with this?

in the area of the KM counter.
Could it be that you were only searching for pear-shaped components, but not for SMD LEDs?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I was with the helpful people, and they said it was probably a faulty light bulb.
Where can I find these SMD LEDs? Information: the mileage display is working, but the illumination is not! Thank you.

'I don't know your car, but if the speedometer or whatever display uses an LCD, then the backlight should be visible. If you can't see it at night, then the backlight is probably broken. In my old Passat 35i, it was just a light bulb.'

Hello Jörgs, I drive an Audi A6 2.5 TDI, station wagon, manufactured in 1995.
I can read the display (it's difficult, depending on the lighting), but it's not illuminated, and I can't find a housing for the light bulb - I'm completely stuck?

Is this an LCD or rather an LED dot matrix? In my winter A4 from 1996, it's an LED dot matrix.

I'm not familiar with that, I have no idea what the difference is - unfortunately! How can I tell the difference ?

Hi,
'In this context, 'LCD' likely refers to the classic type of display. These displays are characterized by the fact that each digit is typically composed of up to 7 segments (seven for the number 8, two for the number 1), similar to older digital clocks.'
In dot matrix displays (also using LCD technology), all characters are made up of many small dots. This makes it possible to display all conceivable letters, which is not possible with a 7-segment display.
The former are likely mostly backlit with LEDs, while the latter are illuminated with small lamps.
Greetings.
Eike.

not quite...
There are similar dot matrix displays where each light point essentially represents a miniature LED.
But if it's an LCD issue, then it's likely either the backlight or the contrast control. If it's the latter, then there's probably not much that can be done.

I'm only familiar with this from the Golf III, 35i, and similar models. From a certain production year onwards, the bulbs for the LCD displays were replaced with SMD LEDs.
Take a look here. Is that your speedometer? I'm not very familiar with Audi...

Hi,
Check it out below.
http://wiki.planet-audi100.de/index_ext.php/Instrumenteneinsatz%20-%20Reparaturanleitung%20Teil%201
There's a repair manual for the instrument cluster, including an exploded diagram and a diagram showing the locations of the bulbs. In my car, the bulbs have orange housings and are installed so deeply that they can only be easily removed and installed using a socket wrench.
I don't believe in LEDs.

Hello everyone,
Doc Snyder, that's not the speedometer.
"That's from olli. I also have the orange lamp sockets."
Okay, Olli, one more question: I already had this defect when I bought my car, and I don't know what it looks like when the light is on! You also have an A6, can you tell me how the mileage display looks when it's working correctly? My display is red (the rest of it).
Hello eike, can I adjust the contrast ?
"Thank you."
