Hello!

I have an AFN engine in my Volkswagen Golf III, manufactured in 1997.

I have recently been adjusting the VTG (Variable Transverse Gap) by changing the length of the rods.
to improve the responsiveness of my AFN.

Rainer K. suggests in one of the articles that the setting should be adjusted as follows:
that after (a sufficiently long period) of operation at full load at 3900 RPM, the duty cycle of the motor variator is...
The VTG adjustment should set a value within a range of approximately 85% (leaving a little room for adjustment).
(remains constant for low temperatures, etc.).

That seems logical once you understand it. But where does the recommendation come from?
Pure consequence derived from logical reasoning, or measured values.
factory-set, well-maintained TDI engines, or experience-based values from personal modifications.
Job application?

With my AFN (Atrial Fibrillation), which isn't great but also not extremely bad, the...
The value was approximately 52%, and after shortening the rod by a full rotation, it increased to approximately 58%.
The car is now responding better.
Where exactly am I moving to - from nowhere?
Back to normalcy, or from normalcy into the niche of specialized expertise?

Perhaps there are also comparative performance metrics available for drivers who use their AFN (Adaptive Front-lighting system).
They are completely satisfied with the product ( icon_smile.gif ) and still have the factory settings.

If you have an LDA (Lambda Catalytic Converter), you can already read the answer from the overpressure indicators: Approximately 0.1 - 0.2 bar is normal; more than that indicates that your catalytic converter is reaching its limits (unless the VTG valve is malfunctioning).

For comparison: my ASZ engine runs at approximately 4000 rpm at full load with about 68% boost (factory setting). However, it has a different turbocharger and different solenoid valves than the AFN engine.

While this is often lamented, the optimization of rod design is comparatively rarely discussed.

Hm, that's an idea... 1 cm threaded rod ~ M5... I need to check that in the parts catalog right away icon_cool.gif.

In the ASZ (presumably referring to a device or system), I still have the factory settings.
As a PD engine, it doesn't have the same responsiveness as my AFN engine (unfortunately).
"Nevertheless, it already produces noticeable pressure fluctuations up to approximately 0.15 bar, so I will leave the setting as it is."
