Poetry between turbo and exhaust manifold???

Hello, I just went to Seat to get some gaskets for my broken turbo. And the guy at the parts counter told me that there shouldn't be a gasket between the turbo and the exhaust manifold, that they should just be screwed together. Now, I looked at the disassembled parts at home, and I couldn't find a gasket either. However, it could also be that the old gasket is missing... Can anyone confirm that there shouldn't be a gasket in between? I've already looked at the exhaust manifold to see if there were any impressions, but I don't know now if they're from the turbo or the gasket. Unfortunately, I don't have the old turbo anymore, and the new one hasn't arrived yet.
Does anyone know more?
