VW Golf B4 TDI: Radio Installation Guide

Has anyone ever installed a different radio in an Audi 80 B4, model year 1993, with a TDI 1Z-BAA engine? Does anyone know the color codes for the wiring? I'm particularly interested in the antenna amplifier connection (rear window antenna), but I can't seem to find the correct cable. The wiring diagram isn't very helpful either. Is it controlled by the control unit? Is it permanently connected to the power supply, or am I just missing something?
The cable for the antenna amplifier was also present in the Passat.

The antenna amplifier and the buzzer in the instrument cluster are connected via a single wire. Therefore, if the buzzer sounds when the door is open and the radio is on, then the antenna amplifier is also receiving power.

What kind of original radio was installed?

You don't need any active system adapters.

If it's an Alpha or Beta system, meaning without any active system, then the connector I (red) is not present. However, around mid-1994, this red connector was changed from a 10-pin ISO connector to a 20-pin Mini-ISO connector.



Hopefully, this answers your question about the pin configuration. I'm not sure if it matches the official configuration. As you can see, there's no original switched power cable. You'll need to run that separately from the ignition switch. But it's not a problem, and the cable is quite short .

It was a bit strange for me.

The cable to the antenna amplifier was located under the center console/ashtray. It was not connected. So, I would definitely test to see if it's actually connected to pin 5. Measure it at the antenna amplifier.

Well, whatever, it's working perfectly now.
