Hi,
I hope you can help me with this.
When I recently replaced the brake pads on the rear, I noticed that the rubber boot around the brake piston was torn in two places.
I was told that this seal needs to be replaced, otherwise the piston could seize.
I also got a set of [something], and I wanted to use it, but there's nothing about it in my book, and I couldn't get it to come off (I pulled on it quite a bit, but I didn't want to tear it, so I wouldn't be able to put the new one in).
I have an A3 TDI, manufactured in September 1996, and it has disc brakes on the rear.
Does anyone have a tip for me on how to do this? Turn the piston all the way in, or let it come out quite far...
It would be great if you have any information about that.
Best regards, John.

Hi,
Sure, here's the translation:
"at www.meckisforum.de"
Can you find instructions using the search function? Due to the handbrake's self-adjusting mechanism, the overhaul is slightly more complicated than for the front brakes. Gruß Christian

Hello,
To replace the dust boot on the rear brake caliper, you must...
the piston is coming out because the groove, into which the lower, thickened edge of the...
The cuff is positioned and covered by the piston, even when...
This one is completely turned off.
Caution: When removing the cylinder, be aware that the brake line is located there.
The reservoir on the master cylinder was also empty. After that.
Do you have a problem with air getting into the ABS unit?
you will get. Normally, you need a venting device.
I've devised 2 other solutions - (no guarantees).
A. Secure each brake hose to the caliper with a clamp.
* Close - Vent screw on - Piston out - Seal
'and replace the cuff - verschandeln the piston - valve and valve components'
Reassemble - Fill the storage container - Clip on the...
Detach brake hose - Bleed brakes. Then, repeat the same procedure.
On the other hand (I always started from the back right!).
B. If I had air in the ABS system, I would access the ABS control unit using VAG-COM.
and with the actuator test, the ABS was activated for each wheel, during which...
The ABS system simulates the release function and vents each wheel individually.
That worked out perfectly.
I only did this on vehicles without ESP.
ESP might become more challenging! I personally don't want a...
Car with ESP!
