Hello everyone,

'For about a week now, the rolling noise from one tire (rear left) has become very loud. It's a consistent, even noise, not a clicking or clacking sound.'

It completely disappears in left turns, but becomes even louder in right turns.

What could it be? The tire pressure is correct, the tread depth is 4mm, and there are no visible signs of damage.

Greetings.
Rey.

I'd suspect the wheel bearing. Jack up the car and turn the wheel; you should be able to hear if the wheel bearing is broken.

Best regards,

That's definitely the wheel bearing; I had the exact same problem. I wouldn't wait too long to fix it; in my Golf, the wheel could already be moved back and forth on the lift icon_eek.gif.

Regards,
I'm sorry, I don't understand. Can you please rephrase your request?

I am very familiar with these symptoms (based on my own experience; Golf 2, Golf 3).

It's definitely a wheel bearing. Using the method described above, you'll be able to identify it quickly.
It's probably best to replace both wheel bearings at the same time, since they don't cost much.

While it's not that important for this particular problem, what kind of vehicle are we talking about here?

Best regards, Georg.

Hello,

First of all, I apologize for not including the vehicle details. It was a Passat 35i, model year 1992, with engine code AAZ.

It was indeed the wheel bearing. I checked it as described, and it was actually louder than the other side. I then replaced it (including the bearings and other components), and sure enough, the noise is gone.

Thank you all.
Rey.
