Hello everyone!
The plastic dust cover in front of the speedometer on my AJM is incredibly scratched.
The previous owner probably left various items there during the ride. I went to the dealership and asked if it was possible to replace the windshield. With a shrug and a look of regret, he said that the entire unit (the speedometer) would have to be sent back to the manufacturer.
Is this really the case, or were we just too lazy again? eBay also offers speedometer films/bezels for the Bora/Golf IV, complete with installation instructions. Surely, you have to remove the glass to install them, right? So, it must be possible...

Hi,
I've successfully tried this before using plastic polish (available for things like phone screens or plastic headlights, etc.).
It's definitely worth trying, at least.
best regards wolf

Yes, that thought had occurred to me as well. Do you have a particular polish in mind, or are you thinking of something like what Conrad Electronics offers? I don't want it to end up looking even worse.

It is not possible to replace this part individually, as it is not available as a separate replacement item. However, with some care, it can be removed.

... Too expensive.
Everyone has plastic polish at home.
Toothpaste!
I had a "DIESEL" sticker on the dashboard, and removing it left some scratches. I was able to easily remove the scratches using toothpaste. Gruß Bertil

No.
no specific brand - just whatever is available at the accessory dealer... be careful not to press too hard when polishing - it's better to do it more often and optimize the result.

I use car polish and polishing cotton to polish CDs, and it works great, especially on polycarbonate discs.
With this, you can also remove 0.5mm of material if needed... You might want to try it out on an inconspicuous spot first.
It's also funny that the screen has its own part number, it can be easily removed, but it's not available as a single part .

Hi.
Now that we're talking about the window...
What's the best way to clean it so that it doesn't get any scratches?

Microfiber cloth, every 4 months or so...
