Hi,
I was thinking something like this:
Intake manifold from a Passat with a bypass valve.
It's actually designed to intake air from the left side, just like the G3, unlike the G4 which has a flap that allows air intake from the right.
I cannot translate this text because it is not grammatically correct or understandable. It appears to be a jumble of letters and abbreviations. Please provide a complete and coherent sentence or paragraph for accurate translation. Hose from the Passat and connect it to the pressure pipe on the 1Z.
There's only one thing left to check: whether the hose fits the pipe. The hose is connected to the EGR valve using a clip-on connection and should have a diameter that matches the one used in the G4 model.
I'll measure that now.
I just need a Passat air intake manifold and an EGR valve now. Does anyone have any of that available in stock - cheap ?
Sounds technically feasible, right?

As far as I know, the shut-off valve only...
the meaning of the shaking/vibration when turning off the engine.
to dampen.
So, nothing essential.
Why do you want something like that?!

Well, if the rather unlikely scenario of an oil leak occurs in the turbocharger or, say, near the piston, you won't be able to effectively shut down a diesel engine without a shut-off valve. Turning the key won't make a difference.
I think Martin's intuition is pointing in that direction.

No, not quite, Matthias.
The turbo starts to leak a little oil from 140 km/h, but it's still within acceptable limits.
I also prioritize (not just) comfort.
The 1Z model has a short flex pipe where the entire exhaust system is connected, extending all the way behind the MSD (while other models have additional connectors).
Combined with worn-out engine mounts (the heat shield has been missing since I bought it), this puts a lot of stress on the flexible pipe.
Mine is only 1.5 years old, but recently I've started hearing a buzzing noise again, which had disappeared before.
The flap would protect the engine mounts and flexible pipe, and also eliminate the knocking sound that occurs when the 1Z engine is idling.
Besides, I am an original parts tuner and I want to do some tinkering...

Well, I'm still trying to figure out how to handle the issue of making assumptions. Then the project has several advantages for you!

Unfortunately, I had someone on eBay install a Passat PD naturally aspirated engine in my car.
I'm not buying a new one - so, if anyone has one left over
Go ahead!

Hi Martin,
You yourself posted here ( /viewtopic.php?t=2821&highlight=flex%2A) about 1.25 years ago that the AHU is the better version with a support. Since AHU and 1Z are almost identical, I would rather focus on addressing the root cause and install the AHU support solution, rather than simply minimizing the bypass flow with a bypass damper.
You might not need to retrofit everything from the AHU engine, but perhaps you can find support brackets and two welded supports on the exhaust system instead.
While minimizing the rebound stroke is certainly a good start, the support should be able to provide significantly more assistance.
Regards,
Guste.

Hey dude, you're really watching me closely .
The problem is that back then (July 2003), I got a new 1Z catalytic converter with a 1Z flex pipe (because the flex pipe was loose).
At the time, I should have had the AC system converted to a VRF system – for the same amount of money.
I didn't know that at the time, and it was during an inspection that I needed for the manufacturer's warranty. So, "doing a quick fix" (like it would have been to install AHU parts in the 1Z) would have been bad if I had needed to claim the warranty.
It's too late now, because if I adjust the damper like I would with an AHU, the flexible ducting has to absorb all the movements.
The AHU component is about three times longer than it is in the 1Z model.
"De-equipping means starting from scratch, because the AHU and AFN have a catalytic converter and pipe connected to a specific socket."
1Z:

AFN (AHU also has this) - the long flexible hose is somewhat hidden:

Thunderstruck, Martin.
You can grow things on the underside of your car, yes, even manufacture semiconductor chips!

Hi,
What does 'Reinigungstechnik' mean? He took the pictures when the car was fresh off the assembly line.
Regards,
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

Sure! No, seriously, as someone who drives an AHU-powered car, the difference between the 1Z and the AHU has always been of interest, so things like that tend to stick in your mind.
dieselmartin wrote: | | De-tuning means starting everything over again, because the AHU and AFN engines have a catalytic converter and a pipe at a specific location | .
Ugh, I just took a quick look, and that item is supposed to cost around 500. In that case, I would definitely stop there.
dieselmartin wrote: | | Now it's too late, because if I adjust the cat as I would with an AHU, the flexible pipe must absorb all movements. The AHU part is about 3 times longer than the one in the 1Z model. |
"You're right, additional supports are indeed not an option. However, I still doubt whether the bypass valve will solve your problems and significantly reduce the stress on the flexible duct. Furthermore, the DIY solution also involves some time and expense. Wouldn't it ultimately be cheaper to consider AHU retrofits? Or perhaps a replacement bearing (I know, about 50 euros each)?" But ultimately, it's your decision. I've also done my fair share of tinkering on mine, some of which was of questionable usefulness, simply because I could.
I think your proposed modification is definitely feasible, in principle.
Regards,
Guste.

Hi Guste,
When I listen to the noises during operation and then when the engine is turned off, or even when I see the engine itself, I think the flex pipe is really stressed when the engine is stopped. Also, stopping the engine is harder on it than a full-throttle acceleration. Not without reason is it stated in the explanation for the shut-off valve: Reduction of the shut-offstroke.
When I turn off the ASV (Anti-Slip System) in the Ibiza GP01, you don't really notice any difference. And the engine is completely identical to the 1Z, with the three fixed bearings using identical part numbers.
