Hello,
O'The oil has penetrated the tissue so deeply that there's nothing we can do about it.'
It would be great if someone had experience with this and could share their opinion.
I'll probably try sealing the valve cover gasket with Curil to see if it holds.
Thank you very much in advance.
Jens.

Hmmm... I know some Audi gasoline engines. They had a problem with oil leaks on the valve cover (or timing chain cover).
I would try to seal the valve covers with sealant. I personally did that on my own car, and it works. For extra safety, I would also replace the timing belt...

Remove the cover, verschandeln the gasket, and reinstall it with a little bit of Hylomar http://www.marston.de/dichten/hylomar.php.
And I wouldn't worry too much about a little bit of oil. Just wipe it clean, and that's all there is to it!
Regards,
Manuel.

I don't see this as a minor issue: In my car, which is typical for a five-cylinder engine, there's a leak near the oil pump. The belt is currently slightly oily and has approximately 40,000 km (about 25,000 miles) on it. One tooth is broken at the base. I attribute this to the oil, as 40,000 km out of 120,000 km (75,000 miles) in three years shouldn't necessarily mean the end of its life. (And I'm looking forward to the upcoming work.) Hi there,
Okay, I would also seal the valve cover as described above. But I would definitely replace the timing belt. Oil, you know, has a tendency to dry out over time. Sooner or later, that will happen. And eventually, a 'stiff' timing belt will just break...
Best regards, Christian.
