Hello.
Is it possible to equip a Passat B35i, manufactured in October 1996, with a AAZ engine with an intercooler? If so, what performance gains would it provide, and would this modification be harmful to the engine? I'm considering this because I often have to tow a trailer. If I were to do this, would I need to have the modification registered with the TÜV (German technical inspection agency)?
Best regards,
Kakamido

Enjoy your meal!
Can be installed.
It's useless on its own; it only works with the appropriate pump settings. What's possible depends on...

The engine benefits from it because it receives cooler air.
You also need to register that, as it changes the exhaust emissions (even if only slightly).
(usually improved, try explaining that to the TÜV...).
The LLK (low-pressure cooler) from the corresponding TDI models will fit.

Okay, then I would just like to know where that part comes from.
The original part for the 1Z and AFN engines is located on the driver's side, in front of the wheel arch.

And one more thing, the car now has 265,000 kilometers on the odometer. Do you think that's still okay for the engine, or should I be worried about the mileage? I don't want the engine to give out within the next 10,000 kilometers.

Enjoy your meal!
You should be more concerned about hair loss and thinning hair now, especially if you're not using any hair loss treatments.
"No matter how much you mess with it, the engine won't fail any sooner because of the low-temperature coolant."
It depends on your driving style when you adjust the settings.
My former JR (engine) didn't show any issues at around 285,000 km, and neither did the AAZ at around 180,000 km.
Installation location: Simply ask your local VW dealer to print out the relevant page from the spare parts catalog.
