After my partner complained that clothes were getting dirty from the door seals, I cleaned all the door seals this summer using a plastic/rubber care product (liquid, spray bottle) and a sponge.

That was a mistake - ever since then, it creaks with every small bump in the road, like my Golf is an old leather sofa...

Unfortunately, repeated applications of petroleum jelly and beeswax have not improved the situation. What else can you recommend? Should I disassemble the rubber parts and soak them in oil? But how would I reattach them then?

Hi,

Just don't do anything with oil icon_smile.gif.
Make sure all the door seals and the door frame are clean and free of grease, then use an old cloth and apply baby powder (talc).

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi,

You can easily remove the Vaseline; it contains some acid and will eventually dissolve the rubber.
I can only agree with Rainer: Use talcum powder to dust the seals. This will ensure the sealing surface is completely dry, so that the door will slide silently over the rubber as the body twists.
Talcum powder is available in every pharmacy: for 2€, you can buy 500g and use it for the rest of your life to powder the cars of your entire family. icon_wink.gif

The VW rubber care stick (which icon_smile.gif always uses) is also okay. However: It doesn't last as long, and it picks up a lot of dirt.

With what?

YES, PLEASE!

"Not for long" is true, but it doesn't catch dirt (at least, not in my experience). And with the little brush on top, it's really practical.

I also have something like that, although it doesn't have the VW logo on it icon_wink.gif.

No VW stuff icon_cool.gif - my gaskets are now dusted...
It was a bit of a hassle, but it was worth it: Now everything is quiet again!

Hello,

alternative: I've been using glycerin to treat the seals for years. It works great, it's not expensive (and it doesn't create dust!).

Bye.

Max.

Does your favorite gas station sell pens made from deer antler?
I can only recommend applying sealant to all the seals once before winter arrives, and then the cold can come! icon_smile.gif

Thank you for the feedback icon_smile.gif.

PS: If you just sprinkle some powder on the cloth and wipe the seals with it, you can keep the mess to a minimum. At least, the powder can be easily vacuumed up if it spills.

Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, the following products are suitable for the seals:

Deer tallow, it looks like lipstick.
Glycerin is also a good friend to rubber, and it works very well.
Silicone spray.
And of course, the lip balm from Freundlichen (probably contains that same glycerin stuff).

My father once did something similar with powder, and you should have seen the car!

"I would personally advise against using silicone spray... it works well, but there's a risk of getting it on your clothes, which can be a real mess... that's why we've banned its use for that purpose here."

Not really.
I also spray it on the seatbelt straps so they retract properly again. So far, there haven't been any stains on the clothes.
Maybe you just got a bad one.

Silicone spray (and silicone grease) is therefore used in areas where it is important to prevent contamination. I haven't noticed any contamination yet. However, excessive use of the spray can sometimes cause }adhesions} to dissolve.
