Hi,

I'm experiencing the exact issue described by Michael-II in the error database under 'Starting Problems' for my AAT engine:

Difficult, rough cold start --> Disconnect the temperature sensor connector --> Perfect starting behavior.

Now, this issue should be resolved after updating the error database and increasing the initial amount.

My question:
Isn't that just treating the symptoms superficially?
I mean, the initial amount is set by the manufacturer in the control unit (ECU), so how can it possibly change on its own to 'too low'?
Actually, shouldn't there be another (mechanical) cause for the cold start problems (e.g., a misadjusted ESP), which is merely masked by the increased fuel injection amount?

Hi Markus,

My car since it was delivered starts a little hesitantly when warm, even though everything else seems to be fine (pump settings, performance, etc.). So, it seems to be a problem with the (software) fine-tuning.
Disconnecting the temperature sensor connector significantly improves the warm start, but it also creates an error entry.

If the starting behavior changes gradually, then a quantity correction would only be a superficial fix. In that case, the cause should be identified and, if possible, eliminated.

Hi,

Thank you, Ulf.

The problem is that I've only had the Audi for 2 months.
So, I can hardly tell how long it has been running hesitantly during cold starts.
After the purchase, when it was still warm, there were hardly any problems.
And now it's not a big deal, but that uneven running for a few seconds sounds awful! After that, everything is fine.

Question:
Is this temperature sensor, the one whose connector you can unplug for testing, the same one that also provides the water temperature reading to the combination instrument in the cockpit?
Then it's possible that this sensor is simply defective.
Because my water temperature gauge is consistently reading much lower than it should (I believe the thermostat is working correctly).

Hi Markus,

Before we go into more detail: Is the glow plug system fully functional? An uneven idle after starting often comes from individual faulty glow plugs.
