I'd like to ask a question about hardware on this forum.
I accidentally acquired a VAG 1551. I know, I had to clear out a lot of cobwebs and dust first... it's an old piece of equipment.
Is there any software, updates, or anything else that would allow me to continue using this blue device? The current software version only supports 'Autolatina' models, which are VW vehicles with Ford fuel injection technology, such as the EEC-IV system.
I would be grateful for any advice or experience you can share.

I also received an Alfatest device, the same color and with the same diagnostic connector, but it's not the Grundig brand like the VAG 1551. It also comes equipped with a printer and an LCD display.

Best regards from Argentina, where it's experiencing a very hot summer.

For the 1551, there are so-called program cards, and the last one, in my opinion, is number 9. With models from the year 2000 onwards, you will likely start experiencing problems, and at the very latest, diagnostics via CAN will no longer be possible.

Financially, many people have chosen to sell their VAG-COM 1551 devices. The proceeds typically range above 500 EUR, which can then be used to purchase a current VAG-COM system and, if necessary, even an inexpensive laptop.

Thank you very much for the quick response!
I hope I'm not being a burden with more questions...
For newer models, I use the PC-Scan 2010 software from Napro, which includes almost all of the functions of VAG-Com.
These program cards... how are they loaded? Is there a way to connect the VAG 1551 to a PC? I have a nine-pin interface on the back.
I'm sure I can make the OBD2 cable myself.

Best regards,
Chris

The statement is not correct in its basic premise, because VAG-COM, as far as I can see, includes significantly more functions and also supports the latest VAG models. icon_smile.gif

Slot open, card in, slot closed. icon_smile.gif

No, as far as is known, this information is only available to the manufacturer.

It's best if you read a little more in this forum.

Correct: The VAG-COM version is more comprehensive than the one used in Napro.

The pin assignments of the OBD2 cables are standardized, so I don't have a problem with that. However, I don't know how well the software of the VAG1551 will handle it. As mentioned before, I currently only have the Ford cable for the scanner.

Thank you very much for your help!
