Hi,
'Because my car has a problem with jerking, I wanted to have it adjusted (calibrated) using the diagnostic software. My friendly VW mechanic, El Mechanico, also took the diagnostic tool home with him, and we were able to read the fuel injection amount (3.2 mg/H). However, when I suggested increasing the value slightly (to 4 mg), he said, 'That's not possible, you can't do that, you can only do that with modern diesels.' I didn't want to snatch the device out of his hand and try to perform the login with 12234 (or something similar), and discussing with him in Italian isn't my strong suit (can anyone actually do that, except Italian women?). So, I left feeling disappointed, also because the fuel injection amount value was actually within the normal range --> is the ESP/quantity adjustment device defective?'
I've read here that this adaptation isn't possible with all control units. How can I find out if it works with mine?
Klaus.

Hi Klaus,
If no one else writes anything clever here, here's my answer: Try it! Gruß Ulf

Ulf has already given you the best possible answer!
But if you're talking about the jerking, which I think you are, you won't be able to fix it with adaptation. I had the same problem. The only thing that helped was replacing the pump. Or you could disconnect the speed sensor, but without a speedometer, that's also kind of a pain.

Hello.
I'm experiencing a similar problem. The engine jerks under certain load conditions, but it goes away when I briefly apply full power. However, it usually comes back. It's not the injectors, as I've already replaced them. So, it could be the fuel quantity control unit. Perhaps it's dirty or worn out? Is it possible to disassemble and clean it?
Hopefully, I won't need a new fuel pump anytime soon. (Audi TDI, 1994)
Best regards, Jackel.

Hi, I've been completely engrossed in reading about your troubles... Regarding the speed limiter tip: Where is it located (for testing purposes)? As far as I know, my speedometer isn't electronic but still driven by the traditional cable (one of the last analog speedometers).
Klaus.
TDI 1Z, 374,000 km, and it's constantly shaking/vibrating...

Hi, I've completely devoured your story... Regarding the tip about the speed regulator: Where is it located (for testing)? As far as I know, my speedometer isn't electronic but still driven by the classic cable (one of the last analog speedometers).

To be honest, I don't remember exactly. But it's definitely somewhere near the transmission... Not many cables go in there.
A speedometer with a needle? Does that really still exist in the TDI?
Oh yeah, if you're in the mood for more tales of woe:

Hello,
I also have a Passat, model 1Z, manufactured in the latter part of 1993.
When reading the data, the system indicated that the speed signal was implausible.
So, I checked with VW, and the speedometer cable is installed.
So they immediately said that there was no one willing to donate.
Is there still someone willing to donate, even now?
Greetings.

Hi,
If the transmission still uses the older type of shaft, the speedometer signal is converted from a mechanical signal to electrical signals by a Hall sensor located in the instrument cluster.
This means the error can likely only be located by removing the combination instrument.
Best regards, Andy.

Aha.
That's what I was thinking.
Does it matter if I just leave the error as it is?
So, does that have any influence on the engine control unit?
Greetings.
