Hello everyone,

In another forum, I was told about modifications made during the production period of the Golf 1, specifically concerning the 1.9TDI 110kW ARL engine. It was mentioned that these parts were prone to issues until around mid-2002, after which a revised version was introduced. These improved components were also supposedly beneficial for the 130hp TDI models.

Since our 110kW ARL is a very early 2001 model, I'm now concerned that it might have a relatively short lifespan.

Does anyone have a link that could provide me with some clarification on this?

I would be interested to know what I should pay attention to regarding my Golf, and exactly what modifications were made in the 2002 model year. After all, the '150' is essentially a reinforced version of the '130'. But anyway, I'm hoping for your advice.

P.S. I used the search function, but I didn't find a satisfactory result.

Hello.

I also have an ARL model from January 2002, but I've also heard that there were some engine problems until mid-2002.

The only thing I noticed when test-driving a 2003 ARL model was the engine cover, which was black on my Golf but black and silver on the newer model. However, I think there were other modifications as well.

I would also be very interested to know what changes were made to the engine.

Maybe someone here has an idea.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"MFG" stands for "Mit freundlichen Grüßen," which translates to "Sincerely" or "Best regards" in English. It is a common way to end a formal letter or email.
