Hello everyone,
After removing the cylinder head from the Caddy, I also found the reason for the loss of power, which was that it was only running on three cylinders.
See:
/viewtopic.php?t=12280&highlight=caddy+ahu
The exhaust valve on cylinder 2 is no longer sealing properly. The exhaust valves on cylinders 1 and 3 are slightly leaky. Cylinders 4 and all intake valves are in good condition.
Just a quick note: After 400,000 km, there is NO measurable wear on the cylinders!
Even upon closer inspection, the faint outline of the Hohenschlif mountain is still recognizable.
So, in order to get the Caddy running again, I will be rebuilding the cylinder head.
However, unfortunately, I am encountering a significant problem.
The valve guides need to be replaced, which is acceptable given the mileage.
Only Volkswagen does not have the AHU listed in their parts catalog. Also, other suppliers do not offer it either.
'Unable to get AHU.'
The background is that the valve guides in the air handling unit have different dimensions.
AHL and 1Y have the following dimensions: Length: 36,500 mm.
Inner diameter: 7.020 mm
Outer diameter: 15,000 mm
VW Part Number 037103 419B.
The outer diameter is the exact problem; I've already had to press out a valve guide. The outer diameter of the AHU is 12.000 mm.
Does anyone happen to have an ET number or a supplier for these valve guides?
Thank you in advance.
If nothing else works out, I will have to machine the valve guides from a 15 size down to 12.000mm (but only if it's absolutely necessary), or bore the cylinder head up to fit a 15 size valve (ugh).
Best regards.

Are there any available for the 1Z engine? The engines are built to the same specifications.

Hello,
Art. It has a diameter of 6.8 mm.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"Another question:"
How do you install them? Do you have the correct mandrel for it? You can't just hammer them in; usually, they are even heat-shrunk first, and then adjusted with a honing tool later.
Best regards,

Hello everyone,
The valve guides with the VW part number 037 103 419B have arrived.
Length: 36,500 mm
Inner diameter: 6.800 mm.
Outer diameter: 12,000 mm.
Thank you again for your tips on eBay.
Disassembly is not a problem; I have a 1.5-ton hydraulic press in my workshop.
That means extracting with an 11mm pin is no problem.
For assembly and pressing, I used a 10mm 1/4-inch socket, which fits perfectly.
onto the flange (only available with replacement valve guides) and with a 16mm pin.
approximately 10 cm long, the valve guides, which were slightly worn, have been pushed all the way in.
(Bundle) can be easily compressed.
To verschandeln the valve guides, I used a hand reamer (with a diameter of 6.4 to 7.4 mm).
Currently, I am working on lapping the valves. For this, I am using a diamond grinding paste (with a grit size of 1000) and a wooden handle with a suction cup (to rotate the valve).
Since I've replaced all the valves, it's quite tedious to have to lap them in by hand.
'Three copies are already completed and numbered with an Eding pen.'
Unfortunately, we have another problem: the valve stem seals don't fit! They are too large for the 15.000mm valve guides.
Best regards and thank you.

Hello,
I thought these weren't the real thing... you never stop learning! I usually get them from accessory shops (like "Schötz" here). If it works, try turning up the volume again.
