Hi,

I have (as the least of my problems right now) a rattling backseat in my station wagon.

The individual parts of the split backrest have play in the mounting bracket in the middle (1H9 886 187 A).

Since it's not clear whether the bolts on the backrests are worn out or if the cheap stand (around 9 EUR) is the problem, I came up with a solution that addresses both issues and is also adjustable.

If there's interest in it, I'll document it; otherwise, I'll just work on it myself icon_smile.gif.

I was thinking of a "tongue" *inside* the housing that pushes the pins in one direction, so that they can no longer vibrate within the housing.

Damn.

I was quite mistaken in my recollection of the sizes and dimensions.

"This refers to this part."

Hi,

Back then, I wrapped a few layers of insulation tape around the bolts and forcefully pushed the retaining clips back into place. It hasn't rattled for 6 years - at least not in that spot.

Bye.
peace

The adhesive tape around the bolts wore out quickly due to my frequent opening and closing.
I've had that before.

Even "being diligent with hot glue" didn't last very long.

Therefore, I wanted to use a screw or something similar to clamp the bolt perpendicular to its axis of rotation.
It seems like I can only reach the retaining clips with a wedge.

Hi,

I recommend using copper crush washers, which are commonly used on oil drain plugs.
'About 5 years ago, I adjusted two rings by pressing them to the correct thickness in a vise. Excess material on the inside can then be easily removed with a round file. Then, slide a finished ring over the bolt on each side and secure the whole thing with the original clip. This solution has been working without any problems so far.'

Greetings.
Andy.

@AndyViewing profile: Andy

The problem isn't the movement in the direction of the axis of rotation, but rather perpendicular to it.

The bolts can slide back and forth within the holes in the bracket. The O-rings would prevent any left-to-right movement.

"Nevertheless, thank you."

@dieselmartin

I had the exact same problem: slag buildup in the holes of the chuck, extending in a radial direction.
However, if you make the rings fit perfectly, so that the clips can just barely be inserted, then everything will be fine.
For clarification, here's a bad picture icon_rolleyes.gif In a hurry...

Greetings.
Andy.
