Hello fellow enthusiasts,
I have a combination instrument panel from an A6, manufactured in August/September 1998 (C5?).
The car's mileage display was no longer working, and the FIS/navigation LCD screen showed weak or intermittent readings, especially around the edges.
I was able to relatively easily repair the malfunctioning odometer.
- Remove the metal frame (bend up the three tabs on the back).
- Carefully remove the LCD 'glass.'
- Clean all contact surfaces of the display with alcohol (both sides of the LCD glass, both gold contact rows on the circuit board, and the upper/lower contact surfaces of the 'zebra' conductive pads).
- Assembly in reverse order

.
By the way, you don't need to remove the thin Tachofol films (there would probably be a risk of breakage!), you can simply slide the metal frame past the films.
Result: The distance display is now shining again in its 'former glory.'
Unfortunately, these rubber guides are not available for the FIS/navigation display; they are permanently soldered

.
Is there another repair method available, or does anyone know of a service address?????
edit:
If I had searched for 'A6 MFA', I would have found a service address...

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Best regards,
Kassen.
PS:
In order for the AI on the workbench to function properly, the following pins on the blue socket must be supplied with voltage:
Pin 1:

2 V 'Ignition', Terminal 15.
Pin 23: +12V battery, circuit 30.
Pin 7, 9, 24: Ground, Class 31.
