Hello Dan.jel,
The in-house USB version is almost fully developed, but the circuit boards have not yet entered production.
Since Ross-Tech also offers USB adapters (KEY-USB) that already include an activation key for VAG-COM, I am currently exploring the possibility of using those instead of our in-house development.
The VAG-COM system would need to be manually unlocked for my custom development.
On the other hand, my adapter without a dongle would be relatively inexpensive to produce, as it eliminates all the costs associated with the dongle itself.
It may also include a self-developed USB solution as a kit (an affordable entry point for occasional hobbyists), similar to the existing KL kit for RS232, and additionally, the KEY-USB adapter from Ross-Tech.
Best regards, Rainer.

hello rainer,
'If I may add something: I would like to see both versions. One version would be for hobbyists who don't mind the lack of an integrated dongle and who are willing to do some soldering themselves, and who might even enjoy it as a change of pace. The other would be an alternative to the original Ross-Tech product, as a ready-to-use item. For those who want to be absolutely sure that everything works as intended, you might offer the original version from Uwe for a slightly higher price! As I mentioned (and you promised), I'm looking forward to the possibility of being a beta tester!'

@Brösel
I am using the Ross Tech RS-232 adapter, but I don't know how it is currently configured.
Best regards, harix84.

I'd like to provide some feedback regarding my experience with the Reichelt adapter mentioned here:
I bought a USB 2.0 to RS232 adapter and used it with an old optocoupler adapter from Jeff Noxon (it's important to use optocouplers with the correct current gain, as this affects the signal's rise and fall times). I haven't had any communication problems with any car, from a 1996 Golf 3 to Audi A4, Passat, Fabia 01, and Octavia 03 (approximately 20 different vehicles).
Initially, the communication with the USB adapter was somewhat unreliable. However, after reducing the latency in the adapter's driver (under XP) to the minimum value (approximately 1ms), everything worked perfectly as before.
I know this isn't a guarantee, it's just a personal experience.
Stay cheerful.

We have a similar device in our company. It's working fine so far. Although, I have to say that the device is actually only used for reading and clearing errors here.
It would be interesting to know if this USB RS232 adapter also works with SPI, because our old laptops are slowly but surely dying .
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'Best regards,'
Matthias.

You can definitely use Uwe's adapter without any problems, as it works directly from USB to K-Line. I had an additional USB 2.0 to RS232 adapter plugged into the RS232 to K-Line adapter (like the one from Jeff Noxon). And according to reports here, this setup doesn't guarantee compatibility in every configuration. That's why I created a user report with a positive result using my adapter and interface...
Stay cheerful.

Since the thread 'DIY diagnostic adapter' is closed for replies, I'll post my question here in the most relevant thread.
Why can't the...
'VAG-COM RS232 Diagnostic Adapter Kit / Performance Measurement Kit [B1]'
Do not read measurement block 0 (start of injection) for a price of 59.00 EUR.
Is this not possible due to hardware limitations, or does the shareware version of the software restrict this functionality?
The jump from 60 euros to 250 for...
'Semi-professional EOBD/OBD2 diagnostic system KKL (USB) [VAG_COM_USBS]'
'In order to read out MWBlock 0, there must be some justification for doing so, right?'
Thank you & best regards.

Shareware Limitation(s): * You can only view groups 001-025. Groups 000 and 026-255 are blocked.

Yes, please see the product description.

This is due to the freeware version. However, you also cannot modify any data, view the TDI graph, adjust basic settings, or perform an automatic fault code scan, etc.
Also, the system is guaranteed to work with USB as well... Aktuell:

You cannot change any data.
You can't do that with a 1.9 TDI AFN engine control unit (ECU) through the interface, can you?
Best regards.

The speech wasn't about tuning, but I think you should take a look at the function table.

Thank you again!

This should indicate that, regarding tuning, the year of manufacture is 1998.
The engine control unit (ECU) from the AFN engine cannot be described in detail. (-> Chip tuning)
*Dreams of one day being pampered by OBDTuning*
EDIT
All the questions are irrelevant anyway, because I don't want to spend 250 euros.

Hi again!
To begin with, I have no formal training in electrical engineering.
I now have the 'Diagnostic Adapter Kit' (59€) and the matching enclosure from the...
'Diagnostic online shop purchased from 'dieselschrauber', and to the best of our knowledge...'
Conscience assembled.
(, which, thanks to the included instructions, is actually quite simple even for a beginner.)
In addition to measuring the diameter of the included resistors, also check their current resistance value.
(There are better color code tables/calculators available online, for example.)
http://www.uni-ulm.de/wwe/PHP/widcode.php )
I have tested the SR232 and interface cables connected to the car.
Accordingly, it is soldered onto the circuit board.
Even the status LEDs fit perfectly into the pre-drilled holes in the housing lid.
My question is this (and yes, I have already tried searching, but I'm open to any suggestions).
time of better instruction) In what position is the switch (apart from the fact that...
I wouldn't know which position it's in when it's inside a closed housing.
'For my Seat Ibiza AFN to function, it needs to be connected to (K1/2 L1?)'
Since this is a very basic circuit, I'm hesitant to power on the device.
I will not make any decisions until I am clear about it.
Thank you & best regards.

for my Seat Ibiza AFN to function (K1/2 L1?). |
The correct position is the one in which it works.
Seriously, just give it a try, nothing can really go wrong. If you want to know for sure, check the circuit diagram in the bottom right corner; it explains everything.
[Edit: The kit is now also available as a USB version. [Edit]]
Best regards, Rainer.
