Hello,
Do you happen to have any information on which exhaust manifolds would fit the ARL engine without having an integrated turbocharger? Could the one from the AFN engine (028 253 033 AG) fit, or are there any other options (perhaps from Seat/Skoda/Audi/VW, or even from a longitudinally mounted engine if it's compatible)?

A question for the experts (welders/turbocharger specialists):
Is it possible to weld a flange PERMANENTLY to a gray cast iron elbow, and if so, with which welding process?
What material is the exhaust manifold made of in the 130/150 PS TDI turbochargers? My last information was that it's made of gray cast iron with 60% nickel content (unofficially).

It's really important, and it would be great if you could provide some answers.

Is it possible to weld a flange DURABLY to a gray cast iron elbow? If so, with which welding process???

Hält Approximately 700 kilometers driven without any issues.

Only when it comes to the screws do you need to be precise - they must not protrude, but in the interest of strength, you shouldn't sacrifice any threads either. If you're interested in seeing photos -> PM icon_wink.gif

It really depends on what you plan to do with it and where you need the space. With a longitudinal engine (which the ARL didn't have), both would be possible with some modifications icon_biggrin.gif.

Hi,
Yes, I was also thinking about welding. The carbon content in cast iron is far too high for a weld to be reliable.
It would be great if you could send me some photos of your adapter plate.
Regarding the exhaust manifold, the question is whether the outlet channels are the same for all 1.9 engines (in terms of both shape and diameter). At least, there are different bore sizes for the threaded holes on the flanges. The part number mentioned above should be for the exhaust manifold from the 110hp AFN engine, with a triangular flange, as an adapter plate can be placed on it, followed by the turbo. Space is definitely an issue; there's not much to begin with, and even less in the engine bay of my G3. The ideal solution would be to separate the original exhaust manifold from the turbo and then weld a flange onto it, but that's not feasible due to durability concerns. What would it cost to have something like that custom-made (ideally as a replacement part made from stainless steel (V4a))?

What does it cost to have something like that made (ideally as a Gursteil, as an alternative made of stainless steel ?

For the adapter plate, standard St37 steel (now designated St360) is usually sufficient. I'm not really supposed to advertise here, but if you don't have the means to do it yourself, you can send me a cardboard template, and I will manufacture the adapter plate for you; everything else can be discussed via private message icon_wink.gif.

As far as I know, only the 2.0 TDI engines had angled flanges on the cylinder head.

Here is a photo where the adapter plate can be seen: http://www.bilder-hosting.de/img/0FUZC.jpghttp://www.bilder-hosting.de/img/0FVHN.jpg
