Hello,
A few weeks ago, I performed the service myself on my brother's car (year of manufacture 2000, model 8L, 1.9 TDI 130 hp) while it was parked near the A3 highway. I changed the oil (longlife), oil filter, air filter, and activated carbon filter. The diesel fuel filter probably needed to be replaced as well; I might need to do that later.
I used VAG-Com to reset the interval display in the instrument cluster. I followed the instructions on openobg.org: control module 17, function 10 -> channel 2 was set to "0".
If I start the engine now and press the button on the instrument cluster at the same time, the display shows that the next service is due in 15,000 km. However, shouldn't "longlife" be every 30,000 km or after a calculated period?
"Did I perhaps do something wrong with VCDS (VAG-COM)? Or should I just leave it as is, and when it expires next year, simply reset it the same way again and then only have the service done at the following notification?"
I would be very grateful for the information!

Wow, thank you so much!
If I understand correctly, I need to set channel 2 to zero AND, in addition, adjust channels 42, 43, 44, and 45 according to the table, right?
Do I need to set channel 45 to 0004? Also, the oil we used meets VW specification 507.00 / 504.00...
Thank you very much for the support .

Ah, if I look at this overview, then I probably need to set channel 45 to 0004... right?

Have you checked out what's in the link that Rainer provided?
When a long-life service is performed, the vehicle must be adjusted to the oil quality according to the table below:
42 00015
43 00050
44 00730
45 00004
Is that really sooooo difficult? Gruß Bertil

I just have to chime in here and say that's not right.
If the previous code was "LL", the interval remains set to "longlife".
It will only automatically reset to the default value if a keyboard shortcut is used on the control panel interface.
The person who started the thread should also keep in mind that the value of the remaining mileage "develops" depending on driving style. If you only drive short distances after resetting the display, the value will remain at the minimum (15,000 km). However, if you then drive much longer distances, it will gradually increase towards the maximum.

I'm sorry for asking three times ; I just wanted to be sure! The oil standards were a bit confusing for me. But then I did some more research, and now everything is clear!
Thanks again for the quick and helpful assistance!

Was steht dann in der Betriebsanleitung.
- G3 VR6 '93 128 kW, MKB: AAA
Bis 07/2007: Passat Variant 3BG '01 2.5TDI 110 kW, MKB: AKN
Bis 03/2004: Audi A3 '00 1.9 TDi 96 kW, (MKB: ASZ?) |

Hi Schraubi Schlumpf!
I've secretly thought the same thing. The service interval reset (I set channel 2 to 0, which was supposed to indicate a "longlife" setting) happened a few weeks ago. I know it showed 15,000 km immediately after the reset, but yesterday I checked: it now shows 14,300 km! I'm sure my brother has already driven more than 700 km. Therefore, I assume it's still in "longlife" mode... I'll check the values again sometime.
By the way, I am aware that this is not a "fixed" rule and that this kilometerage is calculated dynamically.
Thank you for the information!

No, he won't!
At least, not always. It depends entirely on the AI system used whether the LL (likely referring to a specific setting or feature) remains active or not. However, with newer AI systems, it is actually the case that the LL is preserved. In such cases, adjusting the channels would create unnecessary extra work.
By the way, the instructions are taken from a VAG document, which explicitly states that the LL code needs to be re-encoded. Gruß Bertil

Well, I haven't even seen an Audi in the past four years.
but I'm happy to learn more. Could you please give me a hint about where I can find this information?
Sure, feel free to send it to me via private message so that this thread doesn't become too off-topic.

"Yes, it would be interesting to know where this information comes from and which vehicle or combination of instruments this has been observed on. At least, according to my knowledge, if we believe this information, some of the procedures in the original VAS testers are incorrect – which I personally find hard to imagine."
P.S.: Just because the information comes from a VAG document doesn't necessarily mean that it is correct.

Hi,
So, the information in the document is not incorrect... Unfortunately, I cannot and am not allowed to tell you any more about it (not even via private message).
Just something to consider:
At the beginning of the "LL movement," VAG was unsure whether the system would be widely adopted and whether the necessary oil would be readily available. Therefore, initially, VAG programmed the standard KIs to automatically display the LL interval (my G4 Motometer KI is one of them). This was intended as a "failsafe" programming feature.
In addition, the AI systems were used in the transition process for both types of vehicles.
With the near-complete penetration of LL, this "feature" has become obsolete. Gruß Bertil

@bertil
Okay, I'll just accept that as is.
However, it might be worth modifying the document to ensure that, by default (using "02" and zeros), the KI remains on the LL setting.
For the initial LL models (such as the BAUREIHE and BJ series), a check or adjustment of channels 40 through 49 may be required.
