Hello everyone,

I'm unable to find a suitable push-button switch for the dashboard (rear window heater, etc.) for a B4 (Audi 80 Avant, 1.9 TDI) that I can install to use as a remote control for my garage door.

Now, I started looking for other keyboard shortcuts and first went through the ones that were already available. The horn would probably disturb the neighbors, but the high-beam assist should work.

"Does anyone happen to have an electrical wiring diagram handy, or know off the top of their head whether the horn function and the high beam are controlled by a single cable from the steering column switch, or by separate cables? I'm trying to figure out if I can "tap into" the horn cable. Otherwise, the remote control would constantly transmit a signal whenever I turn on the high beams."

Here's the idea again: I want to use the horn button, which is electrically a button that closes when I pull the steering column switch (control lever), to additionally (via cables that still need to be installed) "press" a garage door opener that I want to install. The effect is: I briefly press the horn button, and my garage door opens icon_smile.gif.

What do you think about it?

Well, I don't like the method of using the high beam headlights to signal.

Check out the original switches for the B4 model with "special equipment" at a reputable parts dealer.

Sure, here's the translation:

"For example, taxi (is the 'function' button a button?)" or "police (siren?). I'm sure you'll find something suitable there."

Hi,

Does your garage door have a remote control with a fixed code, or is a new code generated each time? If it's the latter, the idea isn't so great because repeatedly pressing the button out of range (like when using the horn) could cause the synchronization to be lost.

Can't you just attach a cheap button somewhere on the dashboard from underneath?

Best regards,

Jan.

Perhaps the unlock button from the G4 could be an alternative, and it could be cleverly mounted somewhere. Plus, it's illuminated.

Take the button for the electric rear window shade from a C4. The symbol fits well, and it's not very expensive.
