Hi,

For those who enjoy reverse engineering:

I just took a look at a Passat 3C that has xenon headlights.
He has xenon headlights. For the high beam, only the matrix behind the ellipsoid lens is switched on (the 3BG also had additional H7 bulbs).
And to my complete surprise, the high beam assist is also integrated with the xenon headlights.
I always thought the seedlings wouldn't grow fast enough and wouldn't survive for long.

The H7 bulb, which is oddly positioned *behind* the parking light, is the turn signal light and is controlled by the steering angle sensor.

Why is the lens for the parking light designed to be so large?

I can imagine that there might be another bulb located behind the taillight, which is only...
The high beam headlights are activated when the low beam headlights are off, and when the low beam headlights are on, the high beam light shines over the xenon lens.

Nowadays, with modern electronics, (almost) anything is possible!

NO,

The high beam function only works with the xenon headlights. In the 3BG model, when the low beam was off, the high beam used an H7 bulb, but in the 3C model, there are no traditional incandescent bulbs for the high beam.

Okay, Al.

Bi-Xenon is clear, the 3BG already had that.

However, the 3BG model used H7 bulbs for the daytime running lights, which would also activate at night in addition to the low beam matrix.

The 3C does *everything* related to gas burners, and that's what makes it special!

I don't quite understand the surprise...

In our CLK with bi-Xenon headlights, both the high beam and the horn are also controlled via the steering wheel.

It's not that uncommon.

It's not so uncommon anymore.

The first xenon systems required a significant amount of time to ignite. At the same time, they were very susceptible to interference from switching on and off. With further development, this is no longer a problem, and the xenon headlights can now also be used as a high-beam flash.

Furthermore, it should be considered that the brake pads are likely to be damaged more by functions such as "coming home" or "leaving home" features (or similar) than by the (relatively infrequent) use of the high beam assist.

Just think about vehicles that are equipped with automatic headlight adjustment.
Sometimes, they are set up so sensitively that even when they are alone, the lights are constantly turning on and off.

Thank you.

That explains it to me. My knowledge was probably a bit outdated.

In the current A4 model, the xenon headlight bulb is also used for the emergency flashers (hazard lights).

Hello.

The magic word is: Hatch!
In modern bi-xenon headlights, the switching between high and low beam is achieved mechanically.

Darius.

@ Darius

Sorry, but what you mean is the switch from low beam to high beam.
That's how it was with the 3BG, and I also wrote about it above icon_smile.gif.

What was new to me was that the high beam assist, which briefly activates the high beams even when all the lights are turned off, also works with the xenon headlights. The 3BG did that with the H7.

...that's something new to me.
All the Bi-Xenon headlights I know (especially those from BMW) have the shutter mechanism, and halogen bulbs.

Darius.

Comeing home and leaving icon_biggrin.gif ...is sometimes achieved in certain models using fog lights.

Here, the theory applies: older systems didn't interfere with xenon lights, but newer systems do because the xenon technology has improved. My Golf IV's xenon headlights are like an old diesel engine; they need a while to warm up and produce light... well, they're only mono-xenon with mini-lenses, otherwise they would have bi-xenon.

Yes, this endeavor is already greatly hindered by the small lens icon_sad.gif.
I wanted to do the same thing with mine, but oh well.

Not difficult, impossible. I've already tried adapting the aperture control to fit the small lens, and even tried swapping the small lens for the larger one... it's a shame, but everything fails due to space limitations, and I'm not really into makeshift solutions.

Oh, I just read that Toyota has once again managed to secure a special permit to offer LED low beam headlights in the Lexus. However, it's only for the low beam function, nothing else. It's not related to the highly complex technology that Hella is developing, which could potentially become production-ready if everything is approved. Another great example of fantastic technology being strangely implemented...
