Hello.

My friend is having the following problem with his Passat.
The xenon headlights are not adjusting properly and are therefore shining too low, illuminating a maximum of 10 meters in front of the car. I've already checked the FSP (Front Seat Position) using VAG Com, but there was no information stored.
Can you use the VAG-COM demo version to temporarily activate the software to check if the height adjustment function itself is still working? Or do you need the full version for that?

Thank you for your responses.

Hi... that's easier to implement.

Car in front, turn on the lights... remember/mark the edge of the illuminated area.

Open the trunk, and one or two people sit on the edge of the trunk -> the LWR (license plate recognition system) must adjust!

However, if there is an error in the LWE (Linear Watermarking), it should be recorded in the error log.

Have you ever tried properly adjusting them (with the default settings)?

Hello, Smurfette.
I've already tried the trick with the wall, but nothing happens.
As I said, no filler in the FSP.
How does that relate to the default settings?

.
Strange...

default setting:
(original VAG tester... I have no experience with VAG-COM).

stg f headlight range adjustment, ADR 55.

Then, set the default to 04.
then 001... wait... set SW.
then 002 for saving.

For the basic setting: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/xenonalignment.html

Somewhere, they were also checking whether the sensor readings were accurate and whether they changed when the car was shaken.

Bye.

Hello.

Thank you for the answers. Can I also perform the basic settings with a shareware license from VAG-COM?

Best regards,

I'd like to bring up this topic again, as it seems I'm experiencing the exact same problem.

I installed an aLWR system in my Passat (AFN, 1998). When exactly does it activate? It's clear when the lights are turned on. But does it activate when the car is stationary? Or does the car have to be moving? Is there a delay?

"In any case, the fault memory is clear, the basic settings have been applied, and the sensor values are okay (they also fluctuate as expected when you move the car around). Actuator diagnostics are possible. Nevertheless, the lights don't dim when I load the trunk. The only thing I haven't checked yet is whether the aLWR control unit also receives the speed signal. Suddenly, there was no power in the laptop. However, the Gala signal probably doesn't play a role if the aLWR is already adjusting when the car is stationary."

Does anyone have any more suggestions or tips for me?

I can only tell you that, for example, in the Golf Mk2 and all other models up to that point, the headlight alignment is only adjusted once: when you turn on the lights, the system compares the vehicle's position at that moment using a sensor located on the front left side of the axle.

Paleolithic xenon.

I don't know what condition your Passat is in now, but I suspect that dynamic headlight range control was introduced with the 3BG model, along with the introduction of Bi-Xenon headlights. Is your car a 1998 model, which would be a 3B? If so, it likely has the same type of Xenon headlights as my Golf: a small lens, static headlight range control, and Mono-Xenon.

Yes, it's a 3B. So, it includes a static dynamic LWR. icon_lol.gif

Front or rear? Only with the Porsche, right? I load my Passat in the back. But what's the point of all this effort? So why have a sensor on the front axle if the lights don't dim when accelerating, i.e., when the front of the car lifts? A sensor on the rear axle would be enough for just the loading state.

"But then maybe I can check it. I'll get in the trunk and then, using a really long arm, turn on the light. Then something should happen up front..."

Thank you for the tip!

Best regards!

That's already helpful. Thank you! At least now I know exactly what I'm dealing with. I'm only interested in the distance at which the static aLWR system adjusts.

I had also searched the web, but only found information like "Help, I can't register my Chinese-e*ay burners" in various dubious forums, which weren't really helpful.

Best regards!

Well... the location for installation is basically irrelevant, because the front of the car rises in proportion to how much the rear drops. Besides, a shorter cable saves money.

"Static" means that nothing is adjusted automatically; instead, it's like with a light meter in the cockpit, where the exposure is set based on the current lighting conditions and the subject's brightness.

As previously mentioned: Stone Age Xenon.

Are you sure about that? I can imagine that if you load weight behind the rear axle, but what if, for example, three people are sitting on the back seat, either in front of or on top of the rear axle? How does that affect it?

Bye.

As I said, it needs to move in relation to each other, because otherwise you won't be able to blind anyone, since the car doesn't bend in the middle icon_smile.gif.

Installation location for Golf: Front axle... they didn't install it there because it wouldn't make sense.

Front AND rear axle.

Of course, you can blind someone without adjusting the front axle if you have a load in the back. This happens when the front axle is the pivot point, like on a seesaw.

Right. And that's the case when the weight is *exactly* on the rear axle!

But why have a sensor in the front, if lifting of the front of the vehicle (which only happens dynamically during acceleration) is not taken into account anyway? Surely one sensor in the rear is sufficient for the general loading state. icon_question.gif
It essentially depends only on whether the load is placed in front of or behind the rear axle (passengers or luggage), which determines the exact location of the center of gravity.

Of course, a real dynamic regulation wouldn't be possible with the old actuators anyway, they are far too slow for that. But at least a regular adjustment would be okay, which they are supposedly supposed to do. It would be interesting to know, if I turn on the light and then get into the trunk next to the box of beer, how long it takes before the sensors are queried again and the system is adjusted. icon_question.gif

There are more unpleasant homework assignments...

Best regards!
