Hello! I was wondering what the boost pressure should be for a 1.9 TDI engine from VW, with the engine code ARL and 150 horsepower. I measured it today using VAG Com and got 1.55 bar, but that's with a chip installed. I'm interested in knowing what the boost pressure is without the chip, so I can see how much it has been increased. Just for understanding, when using VAG Com, do I need to subtract the value it displays from the value it shows at idle, or how is it calculated? It would be great if someone could tell me something about this.

Hello,
1.55 bar is the standard maximum. Therefore, nothing was changed in that area of the software.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hmm, that's strange. I can't seem to get 190 horsepower out of this engine without increasing the boost pressure. I think I need to take it to a dyno to see if it's really chipped! I bought it like that, after all. Is there a way to see with VCDS if different software is installed?

No, logically, the maximum boost pressure is the difference between the maximum boost pressure value (MWB11) and the current air pressure (MWB10).
The 1.55 bar pressure applies only to 'normal' air pressures around 1000 mbar.
The best way to determine the ignition timing is by measuring the advance angle. With a warm engine, the standard setting is approximately 26° KW at 4000 rpm with full throttle.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello.
The regulations for diesel engines are somewhat different, as Rainer has already partially explained.
LD (injection pressure) isn't everything when it comes to diesel engines. The LD value of 1.55 bar is relative and doesn't tell the whole story. What's more important is the injection angle at low load and maintaining the LD between a certain range, around 1.5 bar.
Best regards, Cosi.

Which measurement block provides the injection angle? I want to test that tomorrow.

Rainer K. wrote: | | 1.55 bar max. is the standard setting. So, nothing was changed in the software at that location | Hi Rainer,
I have a maximum target LD- Soll of 1.50 bar in my head for the ARL... 1.55 bar is the value from the BPX (Cupra TDI 160 hp).
@ slg60
You can view the support angle in either drawing MWB 1 or drawing MWB 4.
Since the diesel temperature also plays a role (density compensation), to get a more accurate picture, you should also log MWB 7. Then, MWB 4 will provide more supplementary information (instead of duplicating the water temperature reading).
So, the best way to log data is to simultaneously record data from modules 4 and 7 during a full-throttle acceleration from approximately 1400 to 4500 RPM in 4th gear. Gruß Ulf

Okay, I've done that. It's just a jumble of numbers, it's hard to make sense of. So, there are 3 values per block, and block 4 indicates engine speed, injection start timing, injection duration, and synchronizing angle. Which of these is the most important?

Hello.
Okay, I compared it to my own ARL (engine). Your boost angle is 27.5° at 3750-4000 RPM, which is the same as mine. If your boost pressure is still around 2500 mbar, I'm assuming no tuning has been done.
The diesel temperature is at 71°C, which is probably because you haven't driven it for long enough yet. Mine sometimes reaches up to 90°C.

Your optimal boost angle is at 27.5° from 3750-4000 RPM. That's the same for mine. If your boost pressure is still around ~2500 mbar, I assume no tuning has been done.
Stop!
With the engine at operating temperature, the standard output is approximately 26 kW at 4000 rpm and full throttle.
I know the value 27.5° from tuning files. Therefore, the injection time is extended, but not significantly. The increase in power will likely be around 5%, estimated roughly.
The LD_Soll value in the ARL file I have is 1.5 bar, and Ulf is correct about that. Therefore, the LD has been adjusted accordingly to account for the excess .
If this value were the same for chary, then one would need to take a closer look at their software .
Best regards, Jochen.

However, considering the excess air in the series, this adjustment is completely unnecessary for that small amount of extra diesel.

Okay, I have a performance chart for the car that indicates approximately 190 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque.
"So, something must have been done to it, but it's also possible that I bought a car and the seller simply had a new software installed by VW. I'll take it to a dyno this week to be sure."
Could the desired performance not be achieved through other optimizations?
The tuner was an SLS tuning specialist!
I'm not sure how accurate it is, or what to do with that value, but VAG-Com also has a measurement block that displays the torque, and I get my 410 Nm displayed when I press the accelerator! However, I'm curious about how VAG-Com measures it.

I don't know exactly how accurate that is, or what you're supposed to do with that value, but VAG-Com also has a measurement block that measures torque, and I get my 410 Nm displayed when I press the accelerator! However, I'm curious how VAG-Com measures it!
You can disregard the torque value in VCDS.
