Airbag Warning Light: VW Passat B5 A2 (2003) Fix (Solution)

Airbag warning light is illuminated.
Error code: 00588 Driver-side airbag inflator - upper limit exceeded. The error may be static or intermittent.

Cause.
Dirty or damaged connector pins.

Solution:
To achieve a sustainable and successful repair for the described issue, the following steps must be completed:
• Renewing the retaining ring.
• Renewing the airbag wiring harness in the steering wheel.
• Reconnect the connector that is plugged into the reset ring on the vehicle side. Part number of the contacts: 000 979 015 A.

• When performing repairs, it is especially important to maintain cleanliness.
• The affected contacts should be connected only once if possible, as each connection increases the likelihood of damage to the gold contacts.
• The wiring harness in the steering wheel must not be pinched between the steering wheel and the airbag module.

• Only gold contacts are permitted in the airbag system.
