Hi,

I have the opportunity to get a V6 2.5 TDI Quattro Avant with an AFB engine at a good price. The year of manufacture is 1999. The vehicle has 280,000 km and a service history. According to the workshop, the following parts were replaced between 230,000 and 270,000 km: new ESP (stability control), all control arms, power steering pump, driveshaft (joint), axle boots, etc. All with invoices from Audi. The following repairs are needed: camshafts, clutch (possibly also the dual-mass flywheel).
The price would be 4000€. What do you think? icon_cool.gif

Soon to be forgotten: Otherwise, the vehicle is in very good condition. In fact, all rust issues were repaired under warranty just six months ago (roof edges, doors, fenders were completely replaced). Furthermore, the vehicle has leather upholstery, a sunroof, memory seats, and everything else except for the navigation system. And a good thing: it has a 6-speed manual transmission.

Considering the car's age and mileage, it's quite possible that repair bills could quickly reach 10,000 EUR in the short to medium term. The question is whether that cost is justified given the mileage.

Personally, I prefer to drive a car rather than work on it. icon_cool.gif

Best regards, Rainer.

The AFB only has Euro2 emissions standards, but if that's not a concern for you, the price is okay, and the car is a learning experience.

Can you perform the upcoming repairs yourself?
Otherwise, the car will cost you approximately 7,500 to 8,000 euros.
And then it's no longer a good price.
Even if you do everything yourself, it will still cost between 5500 and 6000.

I don't think the price is good at all. Okay is not very expensive, but 280,000 km is quite a lot.
Of course, another important factor is how many kilometers you drive per year. If you drive around 20,000 km annually, you can definitely expect to drive it for 2 to 4 years. And if you're comfortable doing your own repairs, it's even more likely to last, as almost anything can be fixed.
I would examine it in the smallest detail.

What would bother me are mistakes.

- Seats
- Oil filler (water?)
- Rust
- Worn steering wheel.
- leaky engine

"Just considering the camshafts, the EURO2 emissions standard, the clutch, and all the work involved, I would personally look for a 4-cylinder engine for the same price. It's more manageable in terms of maintenance. However, if tinkering is your hobby and you don't need the bike for everyday use, I would see what can be done about the price. Remember what was said here: when you do the work yourself, €5000 can be quickly spent."

Yes.

Regarding repairs, I would be able to do everything myself. Of course, I would also prefer a 4-cylinder engine (like a Passat with a pump-injector system), mainly due to the maintenance costs. But currently, I can't find anything suitable for that price. In 2 years, the financial situation will be better again. (I never thought that building a house would be more expensive than maintaining a V6 TDI!) icon_eek.gif

Hello luiggi,
Here are some things you, as a homeowner struggling with debt, definitely don't need right now:
A car that steals your time and prevents you from doing things yourself.
one that will be back in stock soon, and you might not have one right now to buy the materials you urgently need for a project.
Unexpected financial contingencies/expenses.
Considering the aspects and my information about the V6, I would personally prefer to buy an older VP Passat Variant with fewer kilometers.
edit:
Leather and similar materials are not ideal for dealing with dirt and plaster during the construction phase.
I can only speak positively about the towing capacity and driving characteristics when towing a trailer.

Okay, I'm immediately seeing at least 3 Passat Variants online for under €3500.

Keep away...

I also had an AFB, but it only caused more problems... When there are a lot of requests pending, it's just a money pit!!!

Sepp.

I've also switched back to my V6 TDI. icon_wink.gif I prefer the 1.9 model because of its ease of maintenance, fuel consumption, running costs, performance, and reliability. }
