Hello colleagues,

I'm experiencing the usual problem with the washer nozzle rotating, and now the rear hatch won't open - the lock cylinder is corroded. Unfortunately, I can't even open the lock using the remote control either. Now I need some good advice. How can I get the tailgate open so I can fix it? I would be very, very grateful for any suggestions.

Best regards, Stephan.

Hello,

While I don't have the rear door trim of a 3B in front of me right now, you'll probably need to remove it from the inside.

'I've had this happen on my wife's Passat before. Back then, I removed all four screws – two at the top and two under the covers in the handle recesses – and then pulled back the trim as far as I could so that I could reach underneath with my hand to access the linkage of the flap locking mechanism. It's a bit fiddly; it's best to fold down the rear seat for better access. But it was actually quite quick.'

Hello colleagues,
'I did it! Basically, you need to access the trunk from the inside and remove the two screws located in the handle recesses. The two screws that connect the upper and lower rear door panels on the sides are not easily accessible. However, with a bit of 'force,' you can also get those out. Then, you can remove the entire paneling, allowing you to access the linkage and open the trunk. After that, I removed the lock/cylinder and thoroughly treated it with WD40. Now it works normally again. The rotating windshield washer nozzle will be addressed next year. Best regards, Stephan.'
