Hi.

Now, it's happened to me too icon_sad.gif. Despite the 12.9 screw, the connection between the KW (Koni) and the timing pulley on my Golf 3 (1.9 TDI, AHU, first registration 11/23/1994, 390,000 km) has come loose to the point where the "grooves and ridges" have worn off (see). Photo).

Okay, here's the translation:

Now, my questions:

The colleague from the workshop said that without "tongue and groove" joints, it's not possible to properly adjust the position of the NW (negative offset) and ESP (electronic stability program) relative to the crankshaft.
In my opinion, it doesn't really matter. Who is right?

If there are no objections, I would like to have the crankshaft ground and a new timing pulley installed.

"Approximately, how much would this service cost? I would only like to have the essential work done – the timing belt, for example, is still relatively new." Probably, the TÜV (German technical inspection agency) will separate us in the fall icon_sad.gif.

Can anyone recommend a good workshop in the Dortmund area?

P.S.: A little background information on this can be found here: /viewtopic.php?t=16548

Thank you.
until the days.

hello,
Your workshop buddy is right. Without a proper, secure connection between the crankshaft and the timing belt pulley, you can forget about the adjustment. And even if you manage to get it right, it will likely come loose again. As you mentioned, you need a new timing belt pulley and the crankshaft journal needs to be precision-ground flat.
Insert the new screw and tighten it to 90 Nm + 90 degrees. And VERY IMPORTANT!! THREADS AND SEALING SURFACES MUST BE FREE OF OIL AND GREASE!! Otherwise, the preload will eventually disappear, and you might end up with something like what you're experiencing now. (This is just a guess).
Best regards.

Hey Querstromkopf,

Thank you for your response.

If I understand the forum posts correctly, the tight, force-fitting connection between the front surface of the crankshaft and the timing pulley is sufficient. Of course, this only applies when there is proper support and the screw is tightened accordingly.

The groove in the crankshaft will not reappear, even with planing. Therefore, my colleague suggested that I might need a new key word.
I don't understand that, because I should be able to adjust the NW (narrowband) and ESP (electronic stability program) settings independently of the KW (adjustable spring) position.

Thank you.
until the days.

Hi.
You can adjust the timing with the distributor, as well as the camshaft.
Sincerely, Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

Get the tools to resurface the crankshaft, and new screws and a new timing pulley (which costs around 25 euros). verschandeln everything thoroughly with compressed air and brake cleaner, then apply red Loctite to the new screw before installing it. It should last around 30,000 km if the wear on the timing chain is minimal.
