I'm having major problems with the fuel injection pump on my AFN after the engine rebuild.
I constantly get the error "quantity setting upper limit". icon_sad.gif This results in the entire system not running very well, and recently it also doesn't want to start (cold) anymore!! icon_eek.gif

I have to say that the previous owner (the engine seller) probably thought he knew something about technology, and he messed around with the thing improperly... meaning he probably adjusted the fuel quantity regulator to try and get a larger fuel injection volume! The result is that the thing doesn't work properly anymore.
I still hope that the pump is just misaligned.

My question: Is there anyone here who has a contact at a BOSCH service center and can therefore arrange to have the pump adjusted at a reasonable price?
I've received offers ranging from approximately 150 to 300 euros so far.

Or perhaps someone has such a pump (of course, in working order) lying around and wants to get rid of it.

It would be great if someone could lend me one of these for testing purposes! That way, I could know for sure if the problem with my engine is actually related to the pump, or if I need to look for the issue somewhere else.

I would appreciate a prompt response, as the deadline is approaching... icon_confused.gif }

Best regards,
Markus

You can also adjust this using VCDS, see the technical article.
Okay, I'm ready. Please provide the German text you want me to translate.

hmm ok!
What exactly does the Bosch service department do? How do they actually calibrate the pump?
The problem is that I'm not sure if my metering unit is defective or just misaligned... I'm getting the sporadic error message "Metering unit upper limit," which usually appears but sometimes disappears. However, it usually reappears very quickly and cannot be cleared!
Could it be related to the problem of the engine not starting in cold weather?
I've actually checked everything else -> everything seems to be fine so far!

Best regards, Markus.

How about you read the linked article and maybe use the search function for any specialized terms?

Otherwise, this topic would be better suited for the toilet.

Hello.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

Thank you for the link. It was/is a great help to me. In fact, I got an idea from it. So, here's the thing, and maybe someone can help me with this:

While reading the data blocks, I noticed that the quantity adjuster is showing a voltage of approximately 1.660 V (at idle, at about 860 RPM). According to the manual, this value should be around 0.7-0.75 V for the AEL (Automatic Engine Leveling) system, but it seems like something is different.
Is that correct?
Is there a specific value for the AFN? If so, what is it?
According to the instructions, it seems like you can adjust the sensor for the half-differential short-circuit ring (what a word...). Consequently, I could reduce the voltage, which – according to my layman's understanding – should result in the upper limit not being reachable? Is that correct?

Hey kiters!

Before you receive further support, please either enter your VCDS license number in the designated field in your profile OR send us a complete diagnostic scan of the vehicle.

Best regards from Munich!

Hello...
Unfortunately, I can't do either of those things?!
I have to ask a silly question: What's the VCDS license for? I'm not even using the software!
I only have an old VAG 1551, which I also borrowed. Do I need a license for that?
According to that, I can't even post a diagnostic report?

I would appreciate it if I could still get some help!

Greetings.

Markus.

Hey kiters!

Since the forum operator themselves distributes this diagnostic software and, in some cases, uses it to finance the operation of this platform, it is understandable that other diagnostic software solutions are not supported.
...but with a VAS, maybe one can turn a blind eye icon_wink.gif.

Unfortunately, I can't offer you much helpful information regarding your question, other than suggesting that you take your pump to a Bosch service center that has a pump testing stand, so they can check and adjust it.
But the GTI already wrote that to you icon_cool.gif.

Best regards from Munich!

Hi,
Since you're working with a VAG 1551, please print the error report and also extract Block 1 and Block 19 according to the manual. Take pictures of them with a digital camera and post them here. Then we can proceed.
By the way, with all the work you're doing on your T3, this won't be your last problem. The VAG1551 is a bit outdated for your purposes. And our forum also thrives on users using a suitable platform, not to mention the host's own requirements. But you've probably already read that.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"vg"

This is a common abbreviation for "very good" in German. It is often used in online forums and chat rooms.
