"With my old TD, I had the problem that the starter motor didn't have enough speed, especially when the engine was warm (-> it would just make a 'orgel orgel' sound), and the magnetic switch was sticking. During a head gasket replacement, I fortunately got access to the connection point for the ground strap to the engine block. I simply used a grinder to clean the connections between the ground strap and the engine block, and the positive terminal and the starter motor (including the nuts, washers, and contact surfaces), and I lubricated the magnetic switch.
