The battery management system should be a control unit that stores charging curves and all other relevant data for each battery from the official supplier portfolio.
Now I've read that with a VASxy, you only need to specify the manufacturer and serial number of the component.
Then, in reality, not that much data can actually be taken into account.
Does anyone know more details? Gruß Christian

To achieve this, all battery manufacturers would need to continuously transmit the serial numbers of their current production to Audi. For me, a serial number is a sequential number. It can be a talking device, meaning it contains information about the type, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. Gruß Christian

I realize this might not help solve the problem, but is everything being removed from the VAS operator's access? Even thinking... BKD GRF

Here's how Audi subtly ties you to the batteries they provide. There are certain batteries that you can precisely pair with the battery management system by entering the required data.
If you use a battery that doesn't meet Audi's specifications and its battery management system requirements, you'll only be able to input data from an Audi battery that's similar to the one you've installed, and you'll have to deal with the consequences that result from that. In plain terms, the battery management system cannot fully perform its task because it doesn't "know" the battery perfectly. A6 Avant 3,0TDI Tiptronic Bj. 02/2008

I used to think the same way. However, if you only enter "Varta 95Ah" and a brand new serial number, it could potentially be either a Blue or an Ultradynamic battery. Or will batteries for the VAG distribution network then receive a special serial number? Gruß Christian

I wouldn't completely rule it out, but I don't think that's the case. I would rather assume that certain positions within the serial number indicate the type, and that the battery management system therefore has detailed information. A6 Avant 3,0TDI Tiptronic Bj. 02/2008
