Hello,

In my A3 8P, I have a Concert radio, but unfortunately, the sound quality is terrible. The radio and CD player crackle and hiss at even slightly higher volumes, and you constantly hear popping and crackling noises. The sound can be described as "gritty."

Since this hasn't always been the case, I wonder what might have gone wrong. The warranty is becoming difficult to claim, as everything actually works, it just sounds bad.

Is there a known standard error? Are there issues with fuses, or are the radio's electrical components simply of poor quality?

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Rainer,
The speakers themselves can also cause a slight change in sound, depending on their temperature.

Hm, they should have gotten warm enough by now... in the other car, it sounds much better despite the "inferior" system. icon_question.gif

Ibiza 4 (sound): The absolute last bit... sounds totally tinny.
My Leon - 8 speakers - perfectly tuned together.

Now, the shopping bags are empty for testing purposes...
Or did you change the radio settings or remove the battery?

Depending on the location where the speakers are installed, it may take longer for the heat to reach them. I seem to recall Ulf mentioning a lack of bass when the car was freezing cold. The stiffening of the surround and cone due to the cold can significantly hinder the movement of the diaphragm. Putting in more effort doesn't necessarily achieve the desired result.

Currently, I'm also missing the front 16cm subwoofers, and I won't install them until I can achieve reasonably comfortable temperatures inside my "Bummsmurmel" (a playful, informal term for a large speaker enclosure). The rear 13cm subwoofers will even take longer. But at least I don't snore; I just don't have any bass at the beginning.

Could dust particles have gotten into the air gap around the coil windings?
Then it probably didn't happen at exactly the same time for all the Cassis. -> Try using the balance control and fader to see if all channels are affected equally icon_wink.gif.

It is always the same, regardless of whether it's VL, VR, HL, or HR.

OK, then there must be a common cause for all channels.
Okay, I'll start by checking the power supply section.
board-side -> Positive and ground cables + connector, fuse...
internal -> connector, circuit board, filter components...

Hello,

"Hutfahrer" seems to be right; this morning, the temperature was +8°C instead of -7°C, and the sound was much better. icon_eek.gif The question is, why do the speakers in the two cars react to the cold so differently?

A matter of material selection... icon_wink.gif Dipped cardboard sticks and cotton centering elements make less of a difference than those made of rubber.

What kind of high-end components are installed? My speakers tend to sound sharp at high frequencies, which is made even worse by the lack of bass.

Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English.

Moisture in the area of movement of the speaker cones forms ice particles that make a creaking sound below 0°C. icon_wink.gif

In our Ibiza 6K GP01, the water drainage hole of the left door's woofer was so clogged (possibly from the factory) that the system would regularly flood. The flooding was so severe that a clear waterline was visible, and mold had already started to grow below the membrane and bead.

Since the Ibiza in question was also a car owned by a woman, I probably didn't have the opportunity to hear any suspicious sounds from that low-mounted speaker in the door when the water bag was frozen.

Strangely, it didn't even smell that much that my significant other mentioned it. icon_eek.gif
And men, well, they just don't smell anything compared to women...

However, the entire surface appeared to have been so dry for years that mold only grew on the back of the membrane (which was visible). And the unpleasant smell from the back probably remained mostly trapped inside the glove compartment...

I can confirm that issue with the sound quality being worse when it's cold in my Skoda, especially the lack of bass. However, after listening at a slightly louder volume for a few minutes, it then starts to work icon_smile.gif.
