First and foremost: I am a (willing to learn) VCDS novice .

I have already described my question/problem in the Passat forum, and I have received some help, but unfortunately, it has not led to a final solution, or to the error being cleared as I would have liked.

I could not detect any noticeable functional limitations. All comfort controls are working. Also, the coding is correct. I added the values specified in VCDS according to my equipment and arrived at the same value: "0004343".

"The strange thing is that I can't even change the encoding. I always get the error message 'encoding rejected, error 31: invalid value range'."
This also applies if I want to re-enter and confirm the apparently correct encoding.

Can anyone help me with this?

Could you also attach your Coding.log file from the VCDS debug subdirectory?

Because otherwise, without any background information, you could just say "well, the engine control unit might not like the coding."

I haven't done anything with the engine. However, I've learned that it was replaced by Volkswagen during the time of the previous owner. I don't know why or how. Volkswagen doesn't provide any information about this, and apparently can't even determine the reason. All they know is that it was replaced in December 2009.
What do you mean by "what is included"? Are you referring to features like: electric tailgate switch, electrically folding and heated automatic dimming mirrors, and ambient lighting? Are these the details you're referring to?

Could you please check if the driver's side door can be programmed with the same code as the passenger's side door, which is 0000246?

Then the automatic folding mirrors and the tailgate unlocking would no longer be activated, but I would still really like to find out why the control unit cannot be reprogrammed.

The folding mirrors are installed on both sides and function correctly even when the button is adjusted. However, it appears that the coding is missing on the passenger side.

I will get back to you. Unfortunately, due to the amount of work I have, I can only do so late in the evening.

My name is Hendrik, not Martin.


@Patti: I still think your coding might be correct, and that the "folding mirror" setting only refers to the folding mirror switch, not to the actual mirror itself. And the pop-up switch is actually only located on the driver's side (just like the tailgate release switch).

In the case of RHD, it would be different on each side.

Okay, I was just able to focus on the coding. The control module accepted the coding "246" (like on the passenger side). And the best part is... besides the tailgate opening, the mirror folding function continues to work perfectly without any restrictions! So, I've now only added the "1" for the tailgate opening, and now everything is error-free and functions perfectly as it should.
