"I have a friend in my circle who has a very powerful sound system in a 2002 Opel Zafira, and it burns through H7 headlight bulbs about once a month. It doesn't matter if they're cheap or expensive; long-life bulbs last about twice as long. The defective bulbs always have melted spots on the remaining filament ends, indicating voltage surges or overvoltage damage."

I am therefore looking for the resistor cables that could be installed between the H7 bulb and the connector on the headlight side. Opel used to offer these as a solution for similar problems with the Astra G, the same generation of Zafira, the Meriva, and the Corsa C. Apparently, the subsequent models are not affected by this issue anymore. These cables are no longer available as spare parts or for retrofitting.

I'm therefore looking for either two of these resistor cables – if anyone has any lying around and doesn't need them anymore. Alternatively, I'm looking for a still-functional part number from VW or another supplier that still carries them. A Circa price wouldn't be bad.

Yes, the number is correct. This part is for the Skoda Fabia 00-04. It's called a "resistance wire."

6Y.... is a purely Skoda-specific part number and can only be ordered from a Skoda dealer icon_wink.gif.

However, the wiring harness from the Fabia is recommended because it already has an H7 connector attached.

Regarding Opel cars: In the Corsa C, the H7 bulb is inserted into a holder, and the holder is then screwed into the headlight assembly. "Would that not work with the plug?"


I'm particularly concerned about the rest of the vehicle's electrical system, given these voltage spikes. If incandescent light bulbs have sweat droplets, that's not just "a mere" 15-20 volts at peak.

Therefore, a universal surge protector might be the better choice in some cases.

The Opel version includes the bare cable with a silicone sheath, which gets quite hot during operation. It consumes approximately 1.7 volts from the vehicle's 14-volt electrical system. Because the original cables in the headlight must be cut to solder in the resistor cables, these cables are officially intended for installation by a workshop only. Some Opel dealers sell them individually, but most require installation, which costs between 45 and 55 euros.

If God wanted me to get those things and have them sent to me, He hasn't contacted me about it since.

I logged the vehicle's voltage for a longer period. The data obtained with the PSA-Assist system shows no anomalies in terms of voltage spikes, but rather a relatively stable voltage of 13.9 - 14 V after the battery is fully charged. This was also demonstrated by a recent 207 gasoline-powered car.
