Hello everyone!
You need to help me with something regarding engine oil.
According to the service booklet, I should replace the first...
Change the engine oil only after 15,000 km.
Typically, the first oil change was performed after driving 1,000 to 1,500 kilometers.
should, which I also think is a good idea.
I know that opinions on this topic vary greatly, but...
My car has now been driven 2800 kilometers, and I've made a decision.
Okay, I'll change the oil now.
Which oil should I use?
I need oil that meets the VW specification 505 001, and there are...
various manufacturers that offer this oil.
Should you definitely only use branded oil (like Castrol, etc.), or...?
Are the others just as good?
Castrol, for example, costs around 14 euros per liter, while Liqui Moly only...
It costs about 7 euros per liter. (Or am I mistaken?)
Anyway, I definitely want to drive my car for longer.
And that's where it becomes important for me to pay attention to such things.
Just share your thoughts.
Regards,
Buggel.

Hello!
Are you sure that specification 505 01 is sufficient for the 74 kW engine?
My father has the same engine in his Golf, manufactured in 2002, and uses long-life oil. However, for that engine, the specifications 0W30 and either the 506 00 or 506 01 standard are required.
I wanted to take my AUDI in for an oil and filter change after 1,500 km, just like I did with my previous cars.
Since even the service advisor at the Audi center in Braunschweig advised against it, I didn't do it. Besides, oil with the 506 01 specification costs around 20.00 EUR per liter, which is quite expensive.
Best regards, D.

My VW dealer uses Mobil Syst S. When I get my oil changed at ATU, I use Liqui Moly or Valvoline. They are all good brands of oil, and you can't really go wrong with any of them. I no longer use Castrol. I don't use the 'Long Life' 0W30 oil; it's too thin for me. For normal 15,000 km intervals, the 5W40 oil is recommended according to the 50501 standard.

OMV also offers a suitable oil, "Diesel full syn extra," but it's also quite expensive, I think around €22. However, it's highly recommended. The VW workshops in this area use MOBIL oil.

Here you can find a list of approved oil manufacturers.
Just a thought: there are even regenerated motor oils that are approved by car manufacturers, whether it's VW or Daimler.
It all boils down to a matter of belief, and of money.
Have fun choosing!
Peter.

Hi!
Even if you've already made up your mind, I still want to point out that you won't gain anything by changing the oil now. It used to be true that changing the oil early was beneficial, but that's a practice that's long been outdated.
Any potential wear particles produced during the break-in period are absorbed by the oil filter and do not remain in the oil circulation system.
If you are changing the oil, please make sure to check EXACTLY which type of oil you need (it is specified in the manual). Using the wrong oil in a PD engine can cause damage.
