Hello,

We have a Fabia HTP three-cylinder engine with 60 horsepower.
I have the feeling that 90% of the engine's torque is already available with just 5mm of pedal travel. At some point, I'll use VCDS and a ruler to verify my statement... Although the car feels weak in the low end, it's difficult to modulate. This makes gear changes challenging. Around the halfway point of the pedal stroke, something significant seems to happen.
Certainly, Skoda designed this performance characteristic to give the feeling of driving a rocket.

Can this characteristic curve be adjusted with simple methods? I would prefer a bit more linearity. Comfort over perceived freshness.

Thank you very much.
Martin.

This type of subjective performance enhancement is used in many vehicles. Many of the small, low-displacement engines, as well as TDI engines (e.g., Golf 5 with 90 hp),...

You can also see this in the MFA (if available), where the fuel consumption is significantly higher at accelerator pedal positions of 80...90% compared to, for example, 100%, and even at 10...20% it's the same consumption as at 60 or 70%. icon_wink.gif

It won't be achieved with simple means. Someone needs to be able to access the content of the control unit. icon_wink.gif

OK, thank you.
Is anyone in the Ulm area who wants to connect?
Is this a simple characteristic curve, or is there more to it than meets the eye?
I don't want to modify it too much or risk breaking anything, but as it is now, it's almost undrivable. Also, I don't want to spend as much money as you would on a chip tuning upgrade. I used to have trouble arguing with my wife...

If it's a simple table with the accelerator pedal resistance values and the corresponding driver preferences, I'm even confident enough to adjust the table in Excel to suit my needs. I just need to find a way to get in.

Hi,

Funny, that's exactly how I felt with my Polo 1.9 TDI. I thought I was going crazy. Just like a brake that is difficult to modulate quickly and precisely.

My approach was to take a look at the potentiometer on the accelerator pedal. Each potentiometer has a certain resistance value and a characteristic curve (linear or logarithmic). Perhaps that's the easiest place to attack.

"I've since sold the Polo and bought a Golf with a 1.2 TSI engine: It's essentially the same. Almost everything is digital. The solution is that my wife drives it now (she already drives digitally), and I drive her 17-year-old Golf3 1.8/90PS. That one has the entire range of motion of the accelerator pedal available; it's great." And a precise braking point (which is probably due to the lack of ESP).

Above all, you feel ridiculous; everyone acts like nothing is wrong. When my brother got his new Audi station wagon (A-something-or-other), I was allowed to test drive it. The brakes were totally imprecise and mushy. I said that, and... I got myself into a lot of trouble.

Next year, I'll need to replace my car. This issue (and also the ride comfort) will be the deciding factors in my choice; therefore, it's unlikely that I'll go with another VW/Audi. However, I'm not yet sure if the same problem exists with other manufacturers. I hope not, otherwise, I'll end up with an older Mercedes-Benz (W124) with low mileage. He's still behaving the way he should.
Viele Grüße
Kai
