I am looking for an antenna rod for the roof antenna that is specifically designed for DAB digital radio (174 - 230 MHz = VHF Band III). To that end, I need someone who can check the spare parts lists and find a part number for me, or I would also be happy to receive a used antenna rod (with M5 thread) that is no longer needed.

EDIT by Guste: Title changed at Hütchen's request.

The part number 6R0035849A is explicitly designed for (1) and should have (2) M5 threads.

(1) Index "A" is important so that it is the DAB sausage.

(2) The previous antennas, for example, those on the shark fins, have an M5 thread.
EDIT:
Persistent searching on Google suggests that it is likely an M6 thread.
Probably to distinguish the DAB antenna from the FM antenna.

It is the Polo sausage that has also found its way into Skoda.

So, M6 instead of M5? Then the only option is to build it yourself. Thanks for your help so far!

Darn it. icon_cry.gif Then I'll have to look across different brands, or maybe build it myself in the end.

Counter question:

The part number 6R0 035 849 (without the index) has an M5 thread, just like the older FM antennas (1J0 035 849 A, for example, in the Golf 5), correct?

Okay.

6R0 035 849 - for vehicles without digital radio reception - M5.

6R0 035 849 A - for vehicles with digital radio reception - M6

...maybe this is a silly question, but: Doesn't the roof antenna have a built-in antenna amplifier in its base? So, while you could theoretically screw on a new "thingy," the amplifier is designed for a completely different frequency. Also, the impedance of the new antenna probably won't match.

Best regards, Styrian.

Found:

AIV (Article 194.03.11) - Antenna rod with M5 thread, suitable for LW, MW, FM, and DAB, length 26.5 cm.

"@ Styrian: The antenna base is practically homemade. It's from a Peugeot/Citroen, but the base is slightly larger, which provided more space. I received it as a gift, and the built-in amplifier was corroded due to water damage. I removed it and replaced it with the circuit board from a DAB windshield antenna amplifier. The rod that is screwed onto the base now works with it. The housing was then sealed. After disappointing attempts with a rod that was obviously completely unsuitable for DAB, I accidentally found one that still worked well from up to 70 km away from Berlin. I can't say for sure whether it was specifically designed for DAB. However, it's no longer aesthetically pleasing, which is why I'm looking for a replacement."

Then just get the complete VW footwell with DAB.

My Peugeot foot is still attached; the headliner, which I painstakingly but non-destructively removed and reattached, is back in place. icon_eek.gif Consequently: No! So the foot remains attached, especially since my makeshift solution is well-received. I just need a stylish antenna that also supports DAB.

No problem! I had only made the description of the antenna modification available to a few people in the forum and didn't write it out again here. From what I can see, this idea seems to be working quite well, and the relatively low effort involved with the modified antenna base has been worth it.

A pleasant side effect is that I know exactly which technology I'm using for the reception and can therefore assess it quite well myself. I already had the DAB-compatible radio in my previous car and had already gained my first experiences with it. Here there was something to read about it.

I didn't want to withhold these pictures from you. The antenna looks like it belongs there. Of course, no one needs to know that this vehicle never originally had a roof antenna. For FM, longwave, and mediumwave radio, the standard window antenna on the A-pillar (visible in the pictures) is still used.

Update: I have now found a suitable antenna rod with DAB functionality and an M5 thread. However, it doesn't perform any better than the one that, purely by chance, also received DAB signals.

If anyone with the appropriate permissions would like to take over the search request from the topic heading...
