Small hardware suggestion

Hello Rainer,

The LED on the VCDS interface is a great idea for estimating the cause of communication problems.
When logging data on the Polo 9N, it also always flashes nicely towards the driver. But on the Ibiza 6L (with the OBD port located horizontally behind the small folding compartment), it flashes downwards, and while the OBD port on the Polo 6R has been re-mounted diagonally downwards, it's exactly the opposite, meaning the LED flashes towards the driver's foot.
On the Rapid, the port is installed horizontally, meaning the LED flashes to the right or left (I'm not sure which way offhand).
Therefore, whether you can see the LED is probably a matter of chance, depending on the orientation of the OBD ports in each vehicle model.

My suggestion:
Add more blinking LEDs in the interface so that the data dialog can be recognized from all directions. Or, distribute the light from the Duo-LED with transparent plastic parts / light guides so that a similar all-around visibility is achieved.

Yes, VCDS tools probably sell well enough.
But it would be a way to further increase acceptance compared to competing products. Skoda has the advertising slogan "Simply clever" for such small things (.

If you don't want to change anything else about the layout, then a completely transparent case might already have the desired effect.

I suspect that 80% of users don't even know what an LED is, 18% don't care, and 2% would be thrilled. :lol:

The idea is nice, but really not necessary. You don't need to constantly monitor the LED. If the diagnosis works, no one will look at it, or if it doesn't work, you can just take a quick look under the floor.

During a log transfer, you shouldn't do this, because if it happens at all, it probably means the connection was successful!

Then the connection was established successfully up to the start of the log. However, this does not guarantee that a connection failure will never occur - for example, I experienced this with the MED9.1 in my Polo, but it was not reproducible.

Then you'll only see that the communication isn't working by looking at the LEDs.
Advantage: You could simply drive past and restart it
Disadvantage: The part is still close to the left knee and forces you to
look away from the traffic situation
Compromise suggestion: Build an extension that allows you to place the interface so that THE LED is in your field of vision

Or we can make it even simpler, without even touching the HW, and simply implant the "LED" into the SW and let it display somewhere on the screen.

However, this would eliminate the control of the on-board power supply. The real LED already lights up when you plug the interface into the OBD port (even without the VCDS.exe running).

Or simply add an extension, then you can arrange the interface however you like: wink:

Something like this would be perfect for a diagnostic shop.
