Hello!!
Perhaps someone can help me with this.
The engine is making a very loud clicking noise in the area of the cylinder head.
Check light is off.
I initially checked the measurement data blocks, specifically the PDE values, but everything was within the expected range.
I initially suspected the hydraulic lifters, but I couldn't find any visible abnormalities there either.
And since I was already there, I also took off my head.
This time, irregularities can be detected (see image), but I can't.
Clearly identify where the problem lies.
I suspect the injector because it looks relatively carbonized.
But maybe someone knows more...

...it looks like the piston might be touching the (ZK image on the right). Please check the connecting rod bearings and the piston pin. Rotate the engine by hand until the corresponding piston moves down about 20mm. Next, try to push the piston downwards using the handle of a hammer.
If it moves downwards without the other pistons moving -> error found.

"Please take a picture of the pistons, but it also looks very clearly like there's contact between the pistons and the cylinder head."

Morning.
Thank you for the tip.
It's exactly the error as described.
I checked again yesterday, and yes, the piston is sinking or has some play.
Pistons and connecting rods were removed and inspected, and the bearing shells were checked.
The bearing surfaces of the affected cylinder are extremely worn.
The problem now is that the crankshaft's journal has also developed fine scratches.

The question is whether the bearing shell has completely disintegrated and potentially damaged the connecting rod, or not.
not?
I've seen a similar wear pattern before, even on an Audi 200 Turbo.
What initially appeared to be scoring on the valve stem turned out to be...
Material of the bearing shells. I installed the crankshaft bearing with the crankshaft still in place.
Wiped verschandeln with lint-free cloths until the pivot pin was free of debris.
e.g., something like this.
Start with K1500 https://www.feines-werkzeug.de/werkzeuge/schaerfen-und-schleifen/schleifen-und-polieren/562/micro-mesh-schleifleinen-einzelblatt-koernung-1500?sPartner=google_shopping&gclid=CIqD3Kqc7M4CFYgp0wod1yoP_w.
The engine, fitted with new, original-size pistons, ran for another 2 years until the vehicle was sold.
However, if the shell is broken and the harder connecting rod is exposed, the situation is not looking so good.
However, I would also open up the other connecting rods, because it's rare for just one to fail; the others probably already show signs of wear.
Regards, Mpire.

I can check again tomorrow.
The whole thing looked pretty bad.
The connecting rod and crankshaft journals definitely never made contact.
If that were really the case, it would save me a lot of work.
I already spoke with a company yesterday that re-hones the crankshaft and installs new bearings with an oversized fit. The entire process costs approximately €150-200 for this engine, depending on the amount of work required. The KW should only be sent there.
The price is okay, but the quality of the workmanship is pretty bad.
Thank you for the tip.
Best regards,

I've looked into the matter again.
"I definitely don't stand a chance of sanding that by hand."
I sent the KW today. Let's see what the company has to say about it. http://www.motorentechnik-koch.de/kurbelwelle/)
I will report back later.

You should also have the connecting rod with the defective bearing checked. It is not uncommon for the lower connecting rod bearing bore to be out of round after a bearing failure, and it may need to be reworked or replaced.

Yes, exactly, the connecting rod of the corresponding cylinder was also sent along for inspection.
Sure, here's the translation:
