Hello and thank you for the many interesting contributions in the forum.
I have been following this forum as a reader for quite some time.
Now I would like to ask a question and hope that is okay. If I am doing something wrong, please excuse me.
For the past few days, the yellow and sometimes the red steering wheel symbol has occasionally appeared on my Passat B6 TDI, manufactured in 2010. After turning off the ignition, the message "Steering Lock - Workshop" appears. After searching in several forums, I believe it could be the known issue with the steering column control unit.
However, when scanning with VCDS, the steering column control unit is not accessible.
"The message "Address 2B Steering Lock Unreachable" appears.
Is there a way to still read the actual error message?

Hello,
Bad, if the fuses and cables/connections are okay, it doesn't look good.
Best regards, Rainer

Thank you for the response. Is it the case that - since the control unit is unreadable and therefore a new one cannot be programmed - I can only have a replacement (and repair) carried out by VW? I had previously hoped that replacing the microswitches would fix the problem, or at most, replacing the steering column control unit.
Unfortunately, for example, the headlight leveling control unit is also unresponsive, even though the headlight adjustment function works. Is the defect in this case attributable to a higher-level control component?
Unfortunately, I can't find the corresponding Autoscan from VCDS on my computer. However, I have saved the data in a Word document.

Please perform a fresh scan, and before doing so, please clear all error codes (Round message to all control units in the VCDS Auto Scan dialog, left center).
Best regards, Rainer

After I had checked the fuses in the dashboard and engine compartment again, I was unfortunately still unable to determine the cause. Also, the connector on the steering column control unit is clearly stuck.
After the major issue with the flashing steering wheel occurred during Easter, I had temporarily removed the check for ELV from the specification list and then put it back in. Unfortunately, I don't know if the inoperability of the tax device has been ongoing since this point in time.
What data is required for the commissioning of a new control device?
Can this be obtained from the data of an older scan where the control unit was still accessible?

Probably yes, if the new tax device has the same VAG part number.

Is the steering column STG not part of the WFS in the 3C?
I thought there were things like comfort control, engine control, and the central locking system in there. But I must admit, I am not entirely sure.
Greetings
Guste

Oh, if that were the case, I wasn't aware.
That would indeed be foolish.
