If the gearbox on the T6 is leaking at the seal between the gearbox and the driveshaft, you will lose gearbox oil. Fortunately, the seal ring can be replaced relatively easily, for example, as shown in the example with the SAY gearbox.
To replace the gasket, follow these steps: - Loosen the wheel hub nut on the front wheel by 90 degrees. **WARNING:** Further loosening is only advisable when the vehicle is jacked up, otherwise the lifespan of the wheel bearings may be affected. These bearings will no longer be pre-loaded when the nut is loosened. Therefore, it is important to avoid overloading the wheel bearings when the drive shaft nut is removed. - Remove the front wheel - Either remove the ball joint from the wheel hub using a ball joint separator, or mark the position and then unscrew the wheel hub from the wheel bearing housing. I decided to go with the latter. - Remove the propeller shaft nut on the front wheel completely and remove the propeller shaft from the wheel hub. - The driveshaft is only attached to the gearbox. According to the repair manual, it should be detached from the gearbox. However, due to lack of space, I was unable to do so. Generally, be careful when detaching, as the inner side of the driveshaft has a metal rim that cannot withstand leverage. If so, detach at the massive inner joint. It is simpler to simply use abrupt movements to utilize the weight of the driveshaft and play in the inner joint. I pulled it a few times, and it's now broken. - The driveshaft is mounted on a keyed shaft, which is inserted into the differential and secured with an Allen screw. After removing the conical hexagonal screw, the retaining clip can be removed from the differential, revealing the seal ring. - The sealing ring can be removed either with the corresponding special tool or by building one. - Replace the retaining rings on the spindle with new ones. verschandeln up Monday positions. - Installation of the new seals, lightly grease with MoS2 grease and tap into the gear with a suitable tool. I had a gear that fit, which I wrapped with tape to prevent damaging the new O-ring. - Then, assemble everything in reverse order. The torque for the Kegelin bus is 35Nm. If this cannot be tightened because the spring of the spindle prevents it, a long lever arm and a strap around the axle will help. This allows you to press the spline and the screw with a cone in the direction of the differential, while simultaneously screwing in the screw with a cone. - Ensure the correct position of the ball joint relative to the wheel bearing housing. Bolt from the ball joint to the control arm: 60 Nm plus 90°. Bolt Ball Joint to Strut: 90Nm and 45°. - Tighten the propeller shaft nut to 90Nm. - Finally, tighten the driveshaft nut to 200Nm. In the SAY gearbox, I initially only found the oil drain hole at the bottom of the gearbox. Therefore, be careful before draining the oil and make sure you know how to refill the gearbox with oil. There was a fill screw located at the top of the differential at the rear. There are also gearboxes without a filling screw! In this case, a hand pump is advisable. The oil capacity is 2.7 liters. I wouldn't necessarily have needed to replace the spline; the sealing surface and the wear on the teeth of the old shaft were acceptable. The retaining ring on the cam shaft has part number 7H0 407 297 and should also be replaced. When assembling the gear, it is important to apply a thin layer of MoS2 grease to the teeth. If the gear is worn, there will be noticeable play in the drivetrain. Here, a new coupling may be worthwhile, as long as the corresponding part in the drive shaft has not yet reached its end.
