Hello everyone!

In my Golf Sportsvan (2016 model, just purchased), it appeared that the rear hatch's gas struts were worn out, as the hatch always slammed shut.

So habe ich mir neue besorgt, von FEBI. But they are even weaker: At the current moderate temperatures, the lid hardly stays closed.

Can you recommend a manufacturer whose gas springs are stronger? Or are there "extra-strong" ones available for purchase?

Thank you all!

Usually, there are Nm specifications... I have a problem that the cheap ones from YOU S are usually too strong.

Also make sure there's an additional damping at the upper stroke.

I once bought a slightly cheaper brand (but not a completely cheap one). They performed quite well initially. However, they then abruptly hit the end of the gas shock. The original brakes are about to fail, so gently release the pedal to allow the piston to move smoothly from the upper stop.

In the winter, it was still manageable (since the gas pressure was lower then). But in the summer, I removed them again and replaced them with OEM parts.

Hello,

I would either use original (Stabilus/Lift-O-mat?) or Hahn gas-pressure springs.
There are online configurators for gas pressure springs, where you can enter the length, extension force, and mounting points.
find the right shock absorber.
As far as I know, the gas-pressure springs for the Golf Sportsvan tailgate have a spring rate of 670 N/mm.

Best regards, Richard

Okay, today I installed the new Stabilus dampers.

And I'm satisfied: the lid opens automatically when it's opened by about 30 cm. That's enough for me. Previously, it was almost impossible to hold it open without it slipping.

The old dampers were actually from Stabilus, even though I had purchased them as FEBI. They had 520 N.

The new dampers have a force of 670 N. I wouldn't have thought it would make such a difference.

Thank you again for your support!
