Post15-08-2026, 15:09    Subject: VW Passat Oil Pan Replacement: Lower Engine Mount Quote

Hello fellow 3BG diesel enthusiasts.

Volkswagen Passat 3BG, year 2002, 1.9 TDI, 130 hp, AVF engine, 6-speed manual transmission.
vorweg: der Beitrag steht jetzt in den Themen Motor UND Fahrwerk, weil es beides betrifft. Because:

I need help lowering the subframe/stabilizer (chassis) in order to change the oil pan (engine).

To replace the oil pan and hydraulic supports, I need to lower the engine cradle. What should I be aware of? I don't have a lift or pit. The oil pan is already loose. I'm not sure if I just need to support the engine cradle and then loosen the three large bolts on the front (left and right, of course). The rear bolts should remain in place to prevent misalignment, according to my current understanding.

Current setup: Car securely jacked up at the front, with the front wheels raised about 1-2 cm above the ground.
Have a jack ready to support the front of the transmission.
"Have a second jack ready to lift the front of the car further (underneath the air conditioning compressor, so you can remove the oil pan)."
With this setup, the oil pan can be removed relatively easily. However, there are still 2-4 cm missing, which I need to obtain from the lowered engine mount.

- Does the stabilizer need to be removed? If so, where exactly (is the center sufficient?), and at what point (before or after the mounting bracket screws)?
- What forces should I expect to apply to the stabilizer bar when the wheels are hanging freely (with a height difference of 1.5 cm from the ground)?
- What forces should I anticipate when lowering the generator carrier? I assume a jack needs to be placed under the carrier and used to carefully lower it after loosening the two 3-bolt fasteners?

Horror scenario:

I can't get the bracket attached with the 2x3 screws anymore, and I can't center the stabilizer bar because the screw holes no longer align. The car is not movable anymore; it's stopped and ended up in my garage.

Da ich auch die Hydrolager wechseln muss, wäre das ja die gleiche Arbeit --> Aggregatträger unten, Motor abgestützt, Lager tauschen, fertig. StWhat does that mean?

"I'm sure some of you have already gone through this. Can you encourage me? Are there any tips you can offer? Where are the potential pitfalls?"

Thank you for your help.
