Dashboard Upgrade: Installation & Retrofit

Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts,
I finally registered today and have a question for you.
I drive a Passat TDI 1.9 with 90 horsepower, manufactured in July 2000. I might be able to get a combination instrument from a Passat manufactured in 2002, but I'm not sure if it will fit my older model. Additionally, I want to retrofit a Multifunction Display (MFA). Is the MFA stalk and the display in the combination instrument sufficient, or do I need to acquire other parts? (The same question applies to cruise control.)

It's not always guaranteed that instrument clusters will fit in every vehicle. I retrofitted an instrument cluster with a Multifunction Display (MFA) from a 2002 T4 into my T4 from 2000. Some cables had to be connected, but it now works perfectly. However, if the instrument cluster doesn't already have an MFA, you can't add one. The MFA must be built into the cluster. If it is, you also need to install the steering column stalk and the corresponding cables.
