Timing Belt Issue: A3 (98+) - Not Centered on ESP (Solution)

The timing belt is not centered on the injection pump gear.


Cause.
Starting with the 1998 model year, some changes were made to the timing belt and the injection pump. This also required increasing the mass of the injection pump gear. As a result, the injection pump gear became wider, but only towards the front, meaning the gear is not symmetrical. This creates the impression that the timing belt is running too far back on the injection pump gear.
